Dragon announces this model of a rare transformation of a Panther into an antiaircraft vehicle.
The Panther medium tank was the third-most widely produced German AFV of WWII, and different variants evolved such as a recovery vehicle and tank destroyer.
Field conversions also occurred, like this one . The resulting AFV was employed by the headquarters company of the 653rd Heavy Panzerjäger Battalion (Schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 653, or s.Pz.Jg.Abt.653) during the titanic Battle of Kursk.

This kit is a perfect combination of Dragon’s existing Panther Ausf.D medium tank and four-barreled 2cm Flakvierling 38 kits. s.Pz.Jg.Abt.653 was an interesting unit and it featured some interesting vehicle conversions, this one included.

As for the kit, there are photo-etched parts included in the box, as are all plastic parts needed to create this unusual but good-looking German air defense vehicle.

Is this just a reissue of Cyber hobby #6626 ? I have the 6626 kit with a Lionroar upgrade etch set from a few years back. It is a nice kit but not new.

Nothing new here, and I really like that "tragic tracks" line.

I went through my copy of the Munch book on 653 and couldn't find a picture of this vehicle, but then I might have missed it among the hundreds of photos that this excellent volume contains. My point, however, was that it seemed odd to me that this unit would put a T-34 into service with the same quad gun and an elaborate gun shield and then just use the stock (and inadequate) shields on the Panther conversion? There must be a story behind this one. Anyone out there know any more?

I scored a Tamiya 50th anniversary Panther D, it comes with these snap together workable tracks. I'm not sure how accurate they would be or if you would have to change the sprocket. I've seen where they sell the track sets separately. Google it.
