New from Dragon is a Panzer IV Ausf.E Tauchpanzer.
Babel fish translates Tauchpanzer as dipping tank but I think wading tank or swimming tank is more correct.

This Smart Kit DRA 6402 1/35 Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.E Tauchpanzer w/Betriebsstoffänhanger is based on Dragon’s Panzer IV E, but it includes all the necessary modifications like sealed openings, snorkel tube and exhaust valve to make it into a swimming tank. In a nice move by Dragon separate parts with and without waterproof covers are provided.

Alo included in this kit is a Betriebsstoffanhanger, or fuel trailer.

Expected release date - August 2008.

Great news! I know some might think there is enough WWII German stuff out there already and to a certain extent that is right. However, this is definently one for my stash. I see great diorama potential in this one. Thanks for the update, Pat

It's interesting to see the exact differences between the earlier super Pz-IV E and this Smart Kit edition. A tauchpanzer is always a special item, since it "shows" a tank in a surrounding it most usually isn't that often to be seen, submerged. Just waiting for the first diorama showing one emerging from the water!

An Ausf. E Tauchpanzer? That is a new one to me, I thought only the Ausf. D was converted. And I wonder about the fuel line going from the drums to the engine deck. Did they run the fuel direct from the drums to the carbs, on the move?

Yeah ... me too. And just when I said I was through with new kits for awhile. Dang it!

Stop already... I thought I'd be finished with the pnzIV based vehicles for a while... and after serious soul-searching and struggle, I cut down the "must-have" list -only to have yet another tank added. It's never going to end, is it?

I recall reading (not sure where, maybe in Spielberger? have to look it up...) that a very small number of Es were converted along with the Ds to be Tauchpanzers, so I imagine DML's trying very hard not to step on the CH Tauch D with this version. It doesn't seem to be a full "Smart" kit though...the workable suspension is a feature from the "Super" kit series as are the separate lower hull armored covers and PE + styrene crew step ladder, turret turntable details, etc. The fact that the blurb says it's based on the earlier IV-E kit (without the sprocket issues I imagine) leads me to believe that it's not truly a 100% Smart Kit like the recent F/F2/G kits. Going to be interesting regardless as it appears the DS styrene parts for the various seals/covers are the centerpieces.

Typical .... Ive set aside the trailer from the Jaboschrek kit and few barrells to to make with one of these .... thinking it would be unusual. I´ll definately get this kit .... considering all the improvements since the initial release of the ausf E, this should be a stunning kit.

Wow! Great, I can start this one once I finish the bridge layer...
