In one of the most interesting releases for ages, here's Tamiya's latest 1/48th scale release announcement.
First of all, my thanks to Luciano Rodriguez over at Missing Lynx for spotting this one.

The new model is:

65 - IJN Komatsu G-40 Bulldozer

Now, two things strike me about this release. Firstly, and obviously, for the Aviation modeler (particularly those who build dioramas) this is going to be a great addition. Secondly, for the Armor enthusiast - it's a great subject to add to a diorama of any of the Island landings.

As Tamiya has repeatedly released these subjects later on in 1/35th scale, we can also keep our fingers crossed for an 'Upscale'!

Licensing, I'll bet. They can depict every component of the bulldozer, all of which are the intellectual property of Komatsu, but they can't show the actual name, also the intellectual property of Komatsu. Weird.

Sure, but there must be ways to show at least sufficient letters. How about KOMATBU or KOMAT8U which can be adjusted to an S or even leave a blank .... also I thought the "renaming-hype" in the modelindustry is primarily a result of the american copyright act. OTOH I know nothing about japanese laws, might be there is something similar. We had an interesting court decision here in Germany recently ... should make life easier (for some model car companies at least) all the best Steffen

Hi all, Over at Missing Lynx someone explained that KOMATU was indeed correct: see here No need to worry, it seems Tamiya San has made a good job... Jean-Luc

The picture at the side of the Report is much bigger than Tamiya image as well.. The photo on the Header of the story is reduced so it can be used in the 'What's New' Thread...

Original and useful subject choice, for a change... A Cletrac or a Type 97 or 95 tank with soldiers would have been more logical, but this is Tamiya's 1/48th scale vehicle range after all... Hopefully they didn't muck it up like the Fi-156, Kubelwagen etc... Gaston
