The publisher for French Armor subjects 'par exellence', Editions du Barbotin, have just announced a very welcome title in their 'Focus' Series.
Focus # 6: Panhard 178

Covers the widely used French Armored Car in both French AND Axis service. Produced in collaboration of the French Saumur Tank Museum, the book follows the usual format for the series with 15 pages illustrated with plans and unpublished period photos. Of particular value are the photos of preserved examples in Saumur - including rarely seen INTERIOR images. As an added bonus, the book also includes commisioned color profiles. The price is another bonus - only 9.95 €uros..

Well, nice as academic coverage of an interesting subject, but at the end of the day, how useful will it be for modelers?

Fortunately, the next few months is going to see Masterbox Ltd. release a couple of versions of the Panhard 178 in injection-moulded styrene which will really add interest to the book.

I have old Shanghai Dragon 1/35 Imperial series (9049) Panhard Typ 178 Railway version in my stash and I believe this book could be useful. Althought I´m not fancy for AMS, it could provide some detail info. Does anyone know, if there is AM barrel available for this DML Panhard or do I have to wait, after Masterbox kits are released, new AM barrels to be released?

Hi, my copy of this book just arrived in the post and if you are looking for exterior detail you will find it very useful. Unfortunately there isn't much in the way of internal detail as the example photographed is almost completely gutted. No engine, no internal bulkheads, no anti-slip flooring etc. The only things in the hull are a couple of steering wheels. The turret however is mostly complete, only missing the periscope optics and some screws. To my knowledge there are no after-market barrels for either the Panhard 178 or the 25mm AT gun offered by Heller. I think if you are waiting for some to appear after the release of the proposed Miniart Panhard then I think you are going to be waiting for a very, very, very long time. Cheers, TimTam27
