The Pak 37 version that came out a while back was a re-pop of the original version from the 70's with a modified rear. This appears to be a re-pop of the orginal 70's version right down to the driver figure. It looks like they've thrown a couple of passengers and some boxes in as an added feature - hardly new tooling. the big T does it again. What's next a re pop of the Walker Bulldog? Maybe it will come with the orginal remote control.

[/quote] Agreed - the detail on items like the oil can beside the driver and the tilt frames are (from the photos) identical to the old 70s kit, so don't expect too much. Looks to me like a couple of figures from the Famo and a sprue from that shonky old German Infantry Weapons set have been thrown into a new box with an old kit. Which really isn't good enough. acav out[/quote] The T26 is the old kit w/ new barrel making it incorrect, the M113 FSV is devoid of interior detail and I have no doubt their "new' 250/3 is just a re-pop with some additional Jerry cans or something. Wish they'd stick to making some nice new smaller kits like the Tilly, UE and Citroen. Maybe that should be their forte?

I'd love a new Leopard 1 as well, but I don't see that happening, at least from an established company like Tamiya. The Leo 1 is out of service in most nations now, including Germany, and was never involved in any major tank vs. tank combat, apart from a small action involving Danish tanks in the Balkans. From a marketing point of view, it's easier to sell wartime tanks, as there is plenty of scope for depicting desperate situations, and the modeler can really beat them up in the painting and weathering stages (though even some wars don't seem to excite--World War Two sells well, but Korean War subjects usually don't). It's also easy to sell current tanks of the major powers, as there is the national pride element, as well as the possibility of being called off to some future war. That's why the current Leopard 1 kits were released in the first place, but frankly, three decades later, their time has passed. Model kit makers are not a public service--they have to be convinced that a new product will recoup its investment. I just don't see Tamiya-san going in that direction.

I know its easy to knock Tamiya but I look forward to their (infrequent) releases more then any other company out there. They get me the most excited out of anybody. I love their kits which I guess comes from when I started building them in the 80's. I will take one or two of their releases every year then the 10 different PZ IV Dragon varients Dragon likes to do every month. Don't even get started on the paper panzers which are everywhere. I love their instructions, they go together well without overengineering everything (Dragon I am looking at you) I have fun building them and they look the part. Its to bad they don't put out more stuff. We all worry about the future of the hobby and Tamiya kits are perfect for younger folk just getting started. I know if I had to start out on Dragon or even Trumpy kits I would have given up as a kid. Jeff

I agree that Tamiya is perfect for start. But we are complaining that they write NEW tooling while re-releasing OLD stuff! p.s. I wouldn't compare Dragon and Trump. IMHO, Trump has bad plastic and really bad quality of details comparing to Dragon, at least their Panzer IV chassis .
