Andy Evans of SAM Publications sends us news of a new modelling guide coming soon from the SAM Team specialising in Airfix's Military Model range.
‘Build and Convert Airfix Military Models’
The Airfix range of ‘military vehicles’ began in 1960 with the Bristol Bloodhound Surface to Air Missile, which was originally released as part of their expanding aircraft range. However the Land Rover included in the set, despite having only a passing resemblance to real thing, is seen as the first real Airfix ‘military vehicle’. Long before 1:35 became popular, the Airfix range of 1:76, and sometimes 1:72 was the preferred scale for military modelling, and new releases were eagerly anticipated, and modelling armour in these small scales has remained a vibrant part of the hobby ever since. This book contains fifty-two modelling projects ranging from the trenches of World War I, the battlefields of World War II, the Cold War and modern times.
This book is intended to show what can be done with both old and new Airfix kits, and is designed with both the enthusiast and modeller in mind and will show, that with a little skill and practice, these iconic Airfix kits can be transformed into superb miniature replicas of the original vehicle. The emphasis here is firmly on ‘enjoyable modelling’ rather than counting rivets, and hopefully many will discover, or perhaps rediscover this fascinating and inexpensive hobby.
