British Rucksacks WWI

Introduction

PlusModel have added another item to 1/48 scale diorama accessories for the WWI modeler. British rucksack set contains more than just the rucksacks and offers a lot of variety and options. The only limiting issue is the availability or lack of suitable 1/48th scale figure sets.

Review

The set comes in a small plastic pouch with a cardboard backer as a stiffener and to protect the contents. The parts are on separate casting blocks with the larger pieces cast alone. They are very well made and show excellent detail overall with no molding issues or bubbles. The resin pour blocks are placed so as not to interfere with detail.

The two largest pieces are a tent and a large bag carrying tent poles. These pieces are fairly generic in appearance and have a variety of uses that could apply to airfields as well as armor or infantry and I expect would work well long after WWI.

Next in size are two large packs that have attached bedrolls and spare boots, with a water bottle on the side. Two large packs with no attachments are next, and four smaller packs, two with straps draped over the front. There are six smaller pouches-maybe a gas mask pouch, and three extra water bottles. A spare uniform is provided, with the shirt on top. This is a nice extra as it looks very good and would add to a camp or barracks scene.

The last two items are a field cap and helmet. No interior detail is provided for either one, though the field cap does have nice all around detail. I wish there had been more provided but it may be that any figure set would be expected to provide helmets as a basic item.

As mentioned above, the parts are very well molded and should look great in a diorama. All that is needed are suitable figures to place them with.

SUMMARY
Highs: Excellent level of detail on the parts, and a nice selection of items to use.
Lows: Not many current items to use these with.
Verdict: This is a very well made set of accessories which should please 1/48 modelers.

I got back into the hobby a few years back, and wanted to find ways to improve, which is how I found this site. Since joining Armorama I have improved tremendously by learning from others here, and have actually finished a couple of kits. I model to relax and have fun, but always look to improve. ...

Thanks, Al, though you don't get very many in that set, haha!

Hi Bill, Like most PM kits, some excellent casting but low on quantity of items. Don't know why they didn't include the folded jacket, mess tins and gas mask haversacks that can be seen in the 1/48 scale kit. Al

Are there any 1/48 figures that these can go with?
