Introduction

Flesh Paint by LifeColor is a new set of 6 paints for figure modelers. It is set CS13. They dry to a matte finish. Airbrushes.com kindly provided this set and states about Lifecolor paints:

Water soluble acrylic colours for modelling and hobby. LifeColor is excellent for paint brushing or airbrushing on plastic, resin, metal, vinyl, wood, cloth and ceramic.

This set should be very popular. I have been enjoyably using LifeColor paints for almost a decade and look forward to this set.

Flesh Pots

This set of six 3/4 fl oz (22 ml) screw top bottles is packed in a good-looking flip-top box. There are no instructions other than as printed (in multiple languages) on the back of the box, plus six printed color chips. LifeColor reminds us that these can be mixed with Tensocrom Medium to create washes and glazes. The bottle caps are molded with an internal rim which both provides a small palette cup as well as inhibits paint fouling the bottle and cap threads.

These paints have pigments that very finely ground and have no noticeable odor. Generally, I find LifeColor to be thinner than other brands I am used to, almost like a heavy wash. Flesh Paint are thicker and formulated for brushing.

I have found LifeColor to be enjoyable to tint and shade for highlighting and shadowing effects. They blend well and can be mixed easily, even with other brands.

Application

Each styrene chip was unprepared and airbrushed through a medium-duty tip at 12-15psi. These colors covered as well by airbrushing as brushing. Coverage was high.

Once dry, the colors have a matte finish.

Demonstration

I used all of the six colors on various figures. Applied by brush, the paint covered well. Once dry, the colors closely match the colors on the box.

The paint dried very fast leaving little working time for blending. I used some flat and gloss clear, and some artist drying retarder to slow the drying time. Both worked as intended.

More than 24 hours after applying a sample of each to my hand, the paints had not washed or flaked off. Great adhesion.

Instructions

These are printed on the back of the box in English and Italian. The text is very fine and challenging to read.

Conclusion

LifeColor's Flesh Paint set should be popular with figure modelers. The six colors provide a good basic spectrum of two basic skin tones, with two each highlights and shadows.

These paints sprayed well through my airbrush, and have excellent brushing performance. It covers well. Adhesion is excellent. My only complaint is the fast drying time.

This set provides a good set of colors for modelers to begin and develop their flesh painting ability. I am pleased with this set and recommend it.
