Dragon’s Marder II has been out now about a month, and since it’s release, it’s been a well-known fact that Cyber Hobby were due to release an update set for the kit. Looking at the kit and what’s included, it’s been difficult trying to figure out just what Cyber Hobby could include to make it worthwhile buying? Well now we know!
the set
As usual with these update sets from Cyber Hobby, the set is supplied in a blister pack, with a single sheet of instructions. We are given 2 photo etched frets, one large, one small(ish), 2 hull walls, 6 pipes, and a small decal sheet.
in detail
The photo etched frets contain brackets for the periscopes, some wall brackets, MP40 brackets, inserts for the ammunition racks to hold shells, and most interestingly, a new and very extensive rack to hold the radio system. I thought the one supplied in the kit was good…………..but this one blows it away! It builds into a very complicated looking, and very realistic looking radio rack, that will really add that extra touch of finesse to the fighting compartment.
Also included in this kit are 6 pipes of various sizes, meant to replace the flexible hoses inside the fighting compartment. This includes 2 spares. The ingenious part is in the way they are made. Instead of providing brass pipes with texture, these are actually made from coiled copper and brass. This makes them not only extremely flexible, as you can see from the pictures, but also extremely realistic looking.
Lastly we’re given new hull walls in pre-formed brass. Now the kit ones are great, but injection moulding hasn’t quite reached the level of technology that will allow scale thickness armour. They’re nearly always chamfered to try and achieve the correct ‘look’. These walls from Cyber Hobby have the correct look in abundance…..really nicely done. Pre-formed, along with all the correct locating points for brackets etc. already etched in.
I have to mention what I see is an omission. I am surprised that the shield for the PaK40 isn’t supplied in brass. I suppose it would have made the set just too expensive. So you’ll have to source one from elsewhere if you really must have one!
in conclusion
An excellent looking set from Cyber Hobby, and a must have for your Dragon Marder II, if you want to give it an ‘edge’! Highly recommended.
My thanks to Cyber Hobby for the review sample.
SUMMARY
A really useful set that for a low price will add that ‘edge’ to your Marder II.
Our Thanks to Cyber-Hobby.com! This item was provided by them for the purpose of having it reviewed on this KitMaker Network site. If you would like your kit, book, or product reviewed, please contact us.
Robert, the shield is a different one to the 234/4. The pipes are for inside the fighting compartment, I think they're more of a conduit than pipe.
Vinnie
Thanks Vinnie for posting the review. Ive got two of the Marders on the way now. But since youve posted this I think I might get these sets two. One question, the CH website says this is an "Upgrade & Conversion" But it doesnt say what the conversion is. any idea? and any idea when they will be in? they say pre-order.
Thanks Vinnie for posting this review,... even without the gun shield, it still looks like a must purchase item...... on a slightly tangent...... I'm sure the authorities appreciate having your fingerprints on file. :-)
Frank
I was looking at this kit about two days ago; I cant wait to see what the radio set rack and ammo racks...From the photos...Impressive!
As well...The kit is moderately priced!
(Have any of you had the opportunity of seeing it in person yet?)
Cheers! From the New Guy!
