Introduction

’Heads were replaced with Hornet…’ - How often have you read or heard this in an article on a build? There is a good reason for this, Hornet make some of the most detailed and top quality replacements available. Since I first discovered them I have used them on virtually all the figures I have made so far.

The set

The set is labelled ‘5 or more varied bald heads with European faces’ and are marked as 1:35. I test fitted them to three different manufacturers figures and they looked to scale on each.

Each head comes on its own poured block of high quality resin, each of which has the set and its own model number moulded on the side. This useful as the Hornet range is large, and once removed from the packet, allows you quickly identify the correct set should you want to re-order. The block is easily removed either by cutting or snapping, with the residue beng removed by a quick swipe of a sander. Necks are extra long to allow fitting in any situation, even open necked shirts.

Each head has a different realistic expression, one is even giving a lewd wink. The quality of sculpting is amazing, and really can only be appreciated under a macro lens. There are no seams, flash, pitting or odd angles. Facial proportions, details and expressions are all perfect, and the smoothness of the surface has to be seen to be believed. I know from experience that primer only improves the features, and often I have wanted just to leave them primed and not ruin them with my amateurish face painting.

Headgear and hair can be added as needed, and helmets from both allied and axis figures fit perfectly when tested.

in Conclusion

Already at the top of most peoples list, Hornet continues to produce some of the best replacements available, and this is a welcome addition to the figures box.
