Winter Conversion Set for the Tamiya Opel Blitz

Mig Productions has created a welcome little kit to allow you to fit a cover for the load space on the back of the Tamiya Opel Blitz truck. The set also includes a winter cover for the radiator and a set of diferent wheels and is cast in light gray resin.

What's In the Box: The set consists of the following:
*the main resin casting for the tarp top
*3 end pieces for the tarp (choice of having the back open or closed)
*replacement radiator with the cover
*7 replacement wheels

All of these bits are packed in a clear vac-form box with a piece of card that has a couple of pictures on the back showing an idea of how to paint it. All of the castings appear to be in good condition with no bubbles or problems. The main cover piece has the casting block already removed and just needs a little clean up at the attachment point. The other pieces all have a small casting block that you need to remove but they came off very easily.

In my photos you will see I only show one of the closed ends, they are both a little diffrent but I had already glued one onto the back of the tarp cover. The fit was spot on and it only needs a little filler around the join to blend it in. The tarp is quite thick, for strength i guess, but it does look abit thick at the back if built open.

The wheels are the same as the previous set released by Mig i believe, they are civilian pattern tires and look very good with the tread pattern very finely cast. The wheel hubs are the later style, with 8 holes around the rim.

Lastly, the radiator cover. This is a lovely little bonus and it will give the truck a different look for sure, and especially suited for a winter scene in Russia. It is cast to replace the tamiya kit part entirely and it looks to fit very well and also gets around the problem of the blank name badge in the Tamiya kit as a bonus.

This is a great little kit, it gives you lots of possibilities and is designed to be simple to use with the Tamiya kit. Recommended.
Highs: Clean castings and good detail.
Lows: If built open, the back of the tarp looks a little thick.
Verdict: A very nice kit to allow for a little different look for your Tamiya Opel Blitz.

Good review! I am working on a Tamiya Opel Blitz in Winter, and my "knock" on the conversion would be the lack of chains on the wheels. I have the Tank Workshop" or Hussar upgrade in-house. They are specific to the Italeri model, which allows for the wheels to spin, but require the Italieri hubs (the hubs are cast into the Tamiya wheels). I like the detail on the tarp, though.
