Robert Skipper has released a number of walk around CDs in the past. His latest is a comprehensive photo reference of the Armored Security Vehicle (ASV) in Iraq. This time Robert offers us the references before the scale model is released.
history
The subject, the M1117 Armored Security Vehicle (ASV-150) is an armored 4x4 wheeled vehicle derived from the V100 Commando family used during the Vietnam war by both US and South Vietnam armed forces.
The ASV is manufactured by Cadillac Gage, has more modern armor protection and is fitted with the same turret as the US Marine's AAV7. First used in a limited number by Military Police, it became a quick solution against IEDs in Iraq where US Army ordered several hundred to replace Humvees.
More than two thousands are now in operation, offering better protection and fire power to the troops.
the cd
So, in the new CD you'll find up to 100 photos of a first M1117 ASV in Iraq. This vehicle is the basis of a complete walk-around treatment with large pictures. Just the number of the turret pictures taken from all sides would be a good reason top buy this CD.
I noticed too that you will have all the views you need to do the anti-skid surfaces present on the upper hull and the turret's top. Suspension and chassis are well detailed too even if on a model they are not very prominent.
The interior is covered with 21 photos several of which will be useful in detailing the interior of the doors. To be honest though, I don't think those interior pics will be sufficient to do an accurate and complete interior but it’s a good starting point .
A second ASV equipped with the Rhino anti IED device is covered by 5 excellent photos which should be enough for most of the modelers since I suspects that most will choose to build this particular vehicle.
Another good point of the CD are the 8 photos with measurements added to the pictures with photo editing software. Those pictures the modeler assess accuracy of a future kit.

SUMMARY
Highs: Real walk around treatment!Lows: the low number of interior photos Verdict: A very welcome reference CD. The size and the quality of the photos are pretty good and give you a reference guide as good as the walkaround books.

Nice review, Stephane. I have enjoyed all of the CD's, enough to maybe try more vehicles like the upgraded Humvees.
Rob: PM sent, but you can guess what it says.
Cheers
Thanks for the review, Stephane. What I want others to know is that Stephane had edited the review to include additional info but it apparently did not make the final cut. I always include extras in the CD's. This one includes a complete exterior walkaround of the M93A1 NBC vehicle, and an thorough walkaround of a V-150 still in use by the Department of Homeland Security, who were kind enough to let me photograph it. It also includes an interior walkthrough in case you want to plumb the forward compartment.
