The Krupp 12.8cm Pak44 kit by Great Wall Hobby is about to hit the shelves. Lion Roar provides a fitting aluminum barrel to replace the plastic parts in the kit.
the kit
The box packing holds 4 shiny parts of aluminum. The parts go together very nicely without any gaps. The base of the barrel fits into the breach block so tightly I wasn’t able to remove the part after dry fitting, so I decide to just leave it there. The modeller should be aware of this, when toying with the parts. The barrel shows no rifling, but it would not show anyway, due to the muzzle break. The muzzle break is finely machined and the cap fit so tightly it almost stayed place even without glue. According to my experience using the Lion Roar replacement barrel for the K44 priming the barrel is a must: The surface is so highly polished it doesn’t have any grip for the paint to hold on to.
SUMMARY
Highs: Saving a lot of work sanding the plastic barrel of the original kit.Lows: If any then the highly polished surface.Verdict: Pending the price, I'd say this one is just perfect. Definitely recommended for all building the Pak44.
