Crikey... Soldering seems tough... I've had experience with it in my schools design & technology workshop and it wasn't fun.

As with anything, practice, practice, practice....if you are able to solder the photo-etch instead of using CA glue the bond will be solid, unable to break apart.

Got up early and started on the rear armour mounts. Once the rear armour is mounted, the sides are then installed using the rear as a guide.

Decided to install the tow cables at this point, don't want to muck around after all the mounting points are installed.

The upper mounts for the rear are three seperate pieces plus the little cable and bolt
The lower ones are a one piece folded type, much better.

Well the upper side hull mounts are made up of five seperate pieces each !!

So I made up a little assembly line to speed things up.

It's only a little time consuming LOL.

The vise works nicely, never have enough hands LOL. The turret has come along nicely

Started with a flat black primer coat. I like to make sure I get into every nook and cranny with this, as it can give a shadow effect, and if you miss a spot with the clolour coats it won't be as noticeable.

Then I base coat with Nato Green. I use Tamiya acrilics exclusively because they are water based and they dry in minutes allowing me to spary all three colours at once.

gonna let this dry overnight and start the weathering tomorrow.

Looks good Rick,

Just remember that the upper sides (above the side skirts) and rear of the hull (rear grill)were oversprayed in just NATO green after the mounts for the slat armour support arms were welded on.

Check out the high resolution Combat Camera images of the tanks when they were first arriving in Afghanistan off the aircraft.

Are you going to hand paint the tan on the slat armour supports?

There appears to be gaps between the front fenders and the front side skirts armour....those gaps shouldn't be there.

The one minor thing I see that is missing at this point is the mounting bracket for the C8 storage box between the gunner's sight housing and the Commander's hatch....easy to add if you want to.....all of the 2A6M CANs have it mounted.....they now have the rifle storage boxes fitted....I think the same time as the A/C units were installed.

Hey Jason thanks for the support! That was my first option to paint the sides green, but some pics seem to show sides are touched up with the nato cam. Check out this pic from Anthony's album, ldshrecceboy

Yes thats the plan, what colour of tan paint do you recommend?

Noticed that too I'll see what I can do to fix that.

I don't suppose you have any pics of the mounts?

Thanks for the support!

This has been by far the most complex and intricate build to date.

I have finally finished with the slat armour and all I have left is the antennae's and some detail painting,..... I hope!

More pics later!

Hi Rick,

Saw your magnificent build and thought I should drop by to say a few things. First off, hold on to your painting just before the markings stage, if you could wait that is. I've just sent the Canadian 2A6M marking artwork to the printer not too long ago. Plenty of grey ladder dudes to boot, 2A6M-specific black maple leafs, and to top it off - a full set of Canadian engine deck stencils (IN ENGLISH - many thanks to a great help from a kind fellow modeller)! These are just a few highlights of the set...

We're looking at roughly end May on the release of this set...

Thought you might be interested to know...

Cheers,

Lawrence

Hi Rick,

No problem. Look out for Echelon annoucements towards the end of May (on Armorama). It's set D356044. Looks like you'll be the first to complete the Canadian 2A6M in it's full livery!

Cheers,

Lawrence
