This is by far one of the coolest looking pieces of modern armour I've ever seen. Well done Rick.

Very pretty kitty! May I ask where you sourced the Antenna mounts (the "T" shaped thingys)? If I could complete mine half as good as yours I'd be happy!

Hi Rick,

just wanted to mention how great a job you did on the Leopard. By the way, I just returned from ROTO 4. Theres a sea container there full of donated kits from Canada. You might of heard of the kits for Kandahar thing a few years ago? Well, the guys that were looking after them were returning home, so i took over. I managed to get a few boxes of kits with glue to each of the FOBS. When I left there was quite a few left. Contact the canadian ESU for more info over there if you're interested.
While I ws there I spent alot of time on the same FOB as the leopards, so had tons of time to get tons of reference pics, but I think building a model like that is beyond my skills.
Also, I'm Navy now but was armoured for 12 years, so I knew alot of the guys and had lots of dog & pony shows.
Anyways, again, great job, and keep safe over there

Hi Ken, I'm in KAF on Roto 5...whereabouts is the Seacan? Or better yet - where's the ESU? I'd figured the K4K would be at the NSE or CFPSA (Canada house or something like that?)

Cheers

Hi Graeme,

ESU is the Engineering Services Unit, but you should contact a Capt GR Smith to get access to those kits. BTW, didn't you write an article for FSM on detailing armour optics???

Hi Rick,

Can you tell me how you achieved such a great paint job of the 3 colour camo? I want to use the Tamiya paints as well, but I am not great with freehand airbrushing. What did you thin with and what your air pressure was. I have an Aztek A470 double action brush.

TIA

Wow, that looks great, your a patient man to be putting all those PE slats together, how does that type of armor work on a real vehicle?

Hey Brad,

I use Tamiya thinner exclusively for my Tamiya paints with the air pressure set at 15-20 psi. After the green base I painted the outline for the brown holding the gun about a 1/4 inch away. Then just fill it in and do the same with the black. A coat of buff and some pigments and thats about it. The paint is thinned to about 40-60 paint to thinner, a little thinner than usual. This lets the paint dry quicker and I was able to do the whole camo in one sitting.

As far as the slat armour, it is designed to explode warheads such as RPG's and ATM's before they strike the hull or turret.

cheers

Hope this helps.

great job on this build. This is my next build. I'm a little nervous now after reading this. I didn't read it until I had all the parts so I wouldn't back out. Now I spend shed loads so there's no turning back.

Hey Chris,

Glad to hear your taking this on!

If you have any questions during your build don't be afraid to ask, better yet start your own build thread for us to follow along.

If you have worked with PE before nothing will come as a suprise, the only issue is that there is ALOT of it. LOL

INTENSE.... I've got everything in place to start. I will consider a build blog Its going to tough to follow yours. I'm currently doing a Leopard 2A4 I posted some pics on MCVDG, check em out. That build is hard lots of little upgrades to the Revell kit. I might fit in a M1A1 Abrams between the two Leopards.
