The original owners of the hobby store was a Mom & Pop operation and they were great people. From what I have heard about the new owner, I would not be able to trade it even if I had not removed the plastic wrap.

Not to divert this thread but you can always just try taking it back.......if the kit is new and unstarted and you have your original bill then you should be able to return it......if the guy won't take it back or give you a store credit then it is his loss in retaining a return customer.
Oh ya......and tell him that he gave you bad advice as well......after you return the kit.
