Eric,

Thanks Johnathon, I usually get my rein stuff from a local shop, or ebay on occasion.
The tutorial is over on Missing lynx I under articles/figures. Have a look, its not as intimidating as it first seems, the techniques work (sort of) the same way with enamels as well I believe. Try some kit heads to practice on, and remeber, due to the finer detail and more distinct lines the washes really are easier on resin. Have fun.

I like the wheel, If you can swing it, woodland scenics makes "field grass" thats some sort of coloured hair, a pack or two goes a looooong way, its nice to have a couple of colours to mix and match dead and fresh grass etc. I just did a quick search on ebay and its about $2.00 a pack. It will give a great scale appearance for longer grass. Also if you want to try leaves on your trees/bushes dried oregano works well, give it a coat of paint afterwards and it does the trick. Looking good so far.

Thanks Eric, I knew about that stuff, but I wanted to see how this would work out. So do you think the grass is to thick to scale? Also the wheel was really easy. Hopefully everything else looks okay.

Ok here is the latest. The long grass was taken off, but the holes are still where there going to go when I get the right kind. So that will be one of my last things to worry about.

here is the static grass on. This is my third time using static grass. What do you guys think?
Doe it need more in certain areas?

Hi Johnathon, looks good. Maybe you could fill in some of the bare areas with grass that the sun burnt? Just a thought. I like your layout also , should be a winner when finished Bob

Hey Johnathon
This is the first I've seen of your progress mate. Good stuff!
A handy tip for quickly establishing what is to scale or not, is to compare it to a 1/35 scale figures fingers. For example, if the object (on this occasion, your grass) is thicker than one finger of your figure, then relate that difference to your own finger to get a quick idea of what size it would be in real life.
As for the grass, you have done some random patches, but overall they still look too 'deliberate'? It is difficult I know, but you have to try and simulate nature's randomness. In between the clumps, I would add smaller tufts of grass, to make a smoother transition between each patch. Does this make sense? I also would add some more groundwork up to the edges of the rock so there are no gaps present. Look at the block-like rock on the far side of the scene. Maybe have your grass tucked around most of the bottom edge of this rock, and work your way out from there? I don't know what you used to glue the grass down (PVA?) but you could even try to remove some of it by pulling out the centres of some of the patches? This would leave a random effect which may look natural. Bear in mind these are all just ideas to muse over!
Cheers

Hey Johnathon, looking good. As you said this was set in the fall I might reccomend some dead leaves (dried oregano) around the base of the tree and mabey a few still hanging on in the branches. If you get some field grass try cutting it short and mixing a few colours to make clumps around rocks and trees. There are endless articles on here as well as other sites that deal with groundwork, so have fun with it and you'll be amazed at some of the cool stuff you can do. Looking forward to some more pics!

its looking good.
i would take the advice everyone has given you, like the leaves around the tree and filling in some of the bear patches with dead grass. it would look more effective.

I also got the Dragon Sd. Kfz. 131 Marder II. It has all the good stuff. Metal Barrel, individual tracks, photo-etch stuff. These will all be my first using them. I am hoping to use it on a campaign here soon.

I will psot some more progress later today.

in my opinion, individual track links are painful and frustrating. just yesterday i bought a Dragon T-34/85, i come home and open it to find there is individual track links .. any way, they are turning out ok, but it is taking me foreever to get them right.
