This is my second atempt at building a diorama. If you did not see my first blog,My name is Johnathon and I am 14 yrs. old and this is my second dio. I started modelling about a year ago.

To begin the diorama I started the figures first.
I used Dragons "Winter Onset [Near Moscow 1941]"

Her is the fig-

I have also got a couple Verlinden ( for the first time) to go with the dio.
I will post more pics when I make some more progress on the base of the dio.
All comments are greatly welcome!!
thxs,
John

Here is my scwimmwagon sp? , as you can see it is very dusty. The inside still needs some work as does the outside also. The wheel is broke off, I still need to make it look flat though. It will also be on the dio.

The lighting is not the best.

Hey! glad to see im not the only 14 year old modeler! I have a little advice on how to flatten the tire. Take a wide blade ( I used a chisle) and put it over a candle flame. lave it there for about 45 seconds or so (I recomend testing it on a piece of sprue first) and take the tire and smush it in. You can vary the amount of flattness by the amount of pressure you apply. Then comes the most critical part. LEAVE THE TIRE ON THE BLADE! I cant stress that enough. IF you remove it while it is still warm, you will get goo from the melted plastic. Let the tire cool on the blade, then remove it. Oh, and i really hope im not telling you something you already know!

Hey Jon,
It is always good to know there are other teenage modellers. On the tire, that is usually what I do. But its funny you say to leave it against the blade, because the last time I just wasnt thinking and brought it off immediatly boy was I mad.
Keep tn touch bro,

John

Hi Johnathon,

I like your progress photos.
Next time you need to flatten a tire on a model . use a standard kitchen knife or a old kitchen butter knife.so to speak, check with mum to see if theres old cutlery spare
The knife heats up quicker .
Use the butter knife over a candle and when you feel the handle getting hotter thats al you need to melt the plastic.
If the handle gets hotter then what you want all you can say is

I can also suggest to get some blue cardboard from a Newsagent or similar to use as a backdrop for your images.
The camera is focussing on the fine thread as well as your subject .

Very nice effort on what you have done .

look forward to more photo's.

Cheers
Michael

Its looking really good, great job on the fig. Don't shy away from older kits if you can find a deal on resin heads. Ultracast make some beauties that, due to narrowed, squinting eyes almost seem to paint themselves. Keep at it, I'm sure this will turn out great!

Eric,
I have been looking for those type and other brands of heads, but due to being on my own bugdet they are to expensive. But I will keep looking. Is there any online stores or anything that sells those fairly cheap? I have been looking on Ebay and MegaHobbies. Got any other ideas?

Here is the site address, have a look. Prices went up a bit last fall, but the quality is amazing. If you can score some older Tamiya or dragon fig kits online cheaply it's definatly worth thinking about a noggin upgrade. Ebay seems to have a good selection of Verlinden stuff, some good some meh. Have you seen the Mark Bannerman tutorial on painting head with oils?
