Hi Andrew! Your project is looking good so far, keep it up and going. I´m also thinking to buy this Coelian, just have to find one first. I´ll be following this with interest, just to learn, if there´s some issues, I should be aware of, when/if I buy one. BTW, was there any other AM mesh sets, you were thinking to use for this one or is the LR the one and best??

Hi Kimmo
I got this kit years ago from the bargain box from the LHS, I'm sure I have seen it available on ebay recently though. I haven't come across any major issues with the kit, apart from the little things I have mentioned in my previous posts.
The main reason I went with the LR set is the price, I won it for US$1.51 plus US$3.60 postage to me in New Zealand
Thanks for the comments

Hi Ant
The PE set is by Lion Roar, set LE35100. It is actually designed for Dragons newer tooling Panther G and Jagdpanther, but it fits the Coelian well
Thanks for the positive feedback too

I've been out giving the Coelian another coat of primer, 31.5 deg outside, 46% humidity, great painting weather but I noticed a bit of an issue. Now that I have attached the intake grills, its hard to get paint down into the recessed parts without spraying too much paint over the rest. I've modified the pic from step 7 suggesting when to paint the recesses with black or similar paint.

Its been a long time since drinks lol
Time just disappears so fast lately that I haven't done much modelling for the past couple of weeks.
I got a bit of work done on the Coelian tonight, construction is nearing completion, I wouldve done it tonight, apart from the fact that a bracket for the rangefinder had broken, and I superglued it together. I want to give it 12-18 hours to fully set. Nothing more frustrating than gluing a broken part together then having it break again when removing it from the sprue!
I've also decided that I'm going to replace the kit barrels with some aftermarket barrels, for added detail. Below is a pic of the stock barrels with flash suppressor detail (or lack thereof!)
Track links will be coming up soon! Will probably build in 4 sections, any recommendations for building will be welcome!

Hi Andrew.
Your Coelian is looking good. I found one on Sprue Brothers back in States and of course, had to order it. Now I just have to wait but meanwhile I´m keeping my eye on your project. Those original barrels look guite an disappointment, I´m wondering, which AM set would be a right one?

Andrew take a look at JB Model.eu as they do barrels which I believe are applicable to this model, they are also very well priced and will add a lot to this model. I have done a review of the 37mm and it is a really nice AM barrel.

oh in terms of the tracks i usually build five links together to start, put them aside another five links, put them aside another, then join the first two... build another five and so forth, i've done this technique on a tiger, panther g and a king tiger with no problems hope that helps you out mate. Hi guys,
Meant to post last night, but was having networking issues with the computer
Thanks for the comments,
Darren and Kimmo, I'll be going with two sets of the RB Models 3.7cm Flak 43 barrels. I'm including a pic below of the barrel and flash supressor. Its detail is 1000% better than kit issues.
Ant, good luck with building yours. I wish I had brought a PE set for the Coelian, I would recommend to anyone contemplating buying a Coelian kit.
Hopefully I will be buying the AM barrels over the weekend, but budget is limited as it is SWMBO's birthday on Friday the 13th, (and she was born on a Friday the 13th too )
Below are pics of Step 20 completed. I detailed some parts with copper wire, bent to shape over a round needle file. The turret just needs a coat of primer and the barrels.
After I coat the turret with primer, the kit will be put on the shelf until the AM barrels arrive. I'm not sure what kit I'll be building next from the stash. I'm deciding between a Tamiya Panzer IV Ausf H or a Tamiya Jagdpanzer IV. Feel free to make a vote or suggestion

Your build is shaping up nicely, Andrew.
I've got one of these in the workshop myself - and I might just have to get a set of those AM barrels as well, they look very nice indeed.
As to what you should build next? Well - I do like a nice Panzer IV, so the IV Ausf. H gets my vote.

Postman made my day yesterday and brought this beauty to my homedoor. After opening and taking closer look at those original barrels, decision was certain to get some AM barrels. Also I´m thinking to have Friul tracks for my tank, just little bit uncertain which Panther tracks to buy I have read somewhere, that Coelian was built on Panther A hull, correct if I´m wrong.
Ant: from where did you bought your Aber set? Could you give me the set product number?
Or can I use Panther A PE set just to get proper grills on place?

Great progress Andrew, been a while since I've looked at your thread. I didn't have any issues with the build, couple seams here and there, but nothing major. Did the same as you, painted the interior of the cooling fans/vents prior to installing the screens, so good call there. Tracks were a little finicky, but nothing that some patience didn't overcome.
Keep at it! Looking good.
Cheers -

Hey Steve,
Thanks for the comments. I've just ordered my RB Model barrels. Hopefully will arrive this time next week!
Yes, Panzer IV Ausf H wins by 1 vote lol Will hopefully get a new build log posted later tonight.

Hey Kimmo,
I believe the Coelian never made to actual production, I've read that there were two wooden turret prototypes found on top of Panther chassis, but not sure what version. I'm a bit noob when it comes to identifying panther variants
By the way, the Aber set number is 35036

Hey Tim,
Thanks for the comments
The weather is crap here at the moment, so unsure if much painting will be getting done this weekend. So I'll be starting construction on Panzer IV Ausf H

I've just found that Eduard also make a PE set for the Coelian. For those interested, part number is 35215. I'm not sure how available it is though.

Hi Andrew!
Thanks for the info. I was also surfing on internet and found the right Aber PE set on Jadar-Hobby´s website, from there I also found AM barrels for Coelian, made by Aber (ABER 35L-10). Didn´t made any orders so far, I have couple projects to finish first but with those Aber goodies, it should look fine, when finished. Keep your project running Andrew, I´ll be following it too.

The Wooden mock-up was on a D chassis. If it ever had entered production they would have used old chassis that were returned to the factory (or so some publications say). Imagine the war dragged on and production continued they would have eventually ended up with a G/F chassis for the Coelian.
Cheers,
