Hi Lewis,

The bag contents are as follows, the kits original wheels and tracks (when I originaly built the kit which was about 10 years ago, I replaced the wheels and tracks with after market items, can't remember where the wheels came from, but the tracks were MK - they have since been swiped for another unfinished project). In the bag there is also the original Tamiya crew, and anything else that had fallen of the tank since I finished it like tools spare tracks etc. It suffered a bit (as did quite a few others which have since gone to the big plastic kit home in the sky) when I moved into my current house 6/7 years ago.

On this overhaul I have got a set of tristar wheels/suspension to use which funny enough, arrived this morning, and if money can stretch I may get another set of MK tracks as the rubber band type that are with the kit aren't in a very good condition.

Jason

Small update, I have stripped down the turret, and removed all hatches etc, cleaned them all up and re-attached them, got to add a little bit of filler. The lower hull is hiding in the freezer so I can remove all the suspension arms, and rollers as I have a new tristar set.

Only my second time using etch. Still lots to do:

Freezing it made no difference

Using a cupola that I had spare

Original bustle rack, now there is an etch one

Etch gun parts

More effects of the failed freexing, had to salvage what I could and scratch the rest

Lots still to do
Cheers

C'mon people, Lets see some posts of your progress.
I have started doing the tracks, 76 links pewr side - Bronco M1A1 set. Hull is done, waiting for a prime coat. Does anybody have any idea how to replace the clear parts, so far my only idea is to melt a clear sprue into the space a file it down.

Hi Lewis,

I sent a couple of hours at the bench this afternoon, The turret if finished, just some filling and rubbing down to do.; I've completely stripped back the lower hull, and it's ready to have the new tristar wheels and suspension installed. The upper hull has been stripped back aswell, and is being slowly rebuilt, I just need to find my Tamiya Panzer IV tools set and I'll be well away. I'm also waiting for a set of MK tracks to arrive to make it complete, I'll take and post some pics next week.

Well, to be honest I haven't done much worth posting... I started trimming the track guards on the M26 and that's about it... Too many projects going on right now... I'm in the weathering stage of 3 (!!!) models right now, so these have priority...

Cheers!

Hi
Small update on my build of the old Tamiya Stug IV.
I've invested in a set of Voyager etch Mesh Shurtzen plates. Have started making these up. Tons of etch to shape for each side. few swear words when they dont go right. I've also got a Aluminium barrel to swop over on it. I've put some build pic's in my photobucket album of the build. Sorry not putting many on here as My Album allowance is running out.

Hi Lewis

Looking good mate, I haven't been at the bench for a week, but I will post some pics before the end of the week. I'll be working on the lower hull and suspension this week, fingers crossed that I actually make it to the bench before the weekend, (as I'm off to Trucks and Tracks saturday )

Lewis, looking good! Vast improvement over the original!

To pass on some advice I got on my M1A1 build: The stowage would not be on top of the turret stowage boxes as the crew would want to keep easy access to those.

As for my build: No progress whatsoever in the last few weeks... Aside of that, the tracks are crumbling away, I fear I will have to get some replacements... Anyone have any M26 metal tracks leftover?

Cheers!

Thanks very much . As to your comment though, surely they wouldn't mind tow boxes on there? They are easy to remove. In some pictures I have seen there are cases of water over the baskets.

Hi, I will overhaul this Tamiya T-34/85, will be adding a turret from a Maquette 1/35 Flakpanzer T-34 747(r). since this kit is crapy (the Maquette),
I think it can only get better with the Tamiya hull; also will be adding the flak from a Tamiya set.
You see, this maquette kit is crapy and expensive, it was a baaad deal.

Let's do some plastic.

Hi
My Stug IV is coming along slowly. The new etch Thorma wire shurtzen shields where a real to make. The little etch pieces drove me mad.
No new pic's as there's not much to see at the moment. Have now started on the Indy tracks that I'm using.
When there's something worth showing I'll add a pic.

Greetings all. I have a question for the campaign leader. In the rules it mentions armour and AFV but would a softskin or artillery piece qualify? At the parents place I found a box that had some ancient models that are attrotious. What I am most interested in is an old 1/48 scale 155 mm Long Tom. It's so old that the glue in many areas has deteriorated to the point where parts are ready to fall apart.

Cheers,
Jan

Jan - I suppose you could bend the rules to fit those in thats a yes by the way
My model, set up at a NewMod. It didn't win but I did win the class it was entered into!

And the one that took the prize for me!

Abrams in the background of the last shot is another one of mine, my M1A2 SEP

Hi Lewis,

Great work mate. and a big congrats on ya! win last weekend. I haven't got any pictures yet, but I've finished the Turret, it needs a bit of filler and then a coat of primer. I've spent this afternoon building and finishing the Tristar Suspension arms (each one has 7 seperate parts, and there are 8 of them, but they do look very nice now they're done) tomorrow I hope to have the wheels done. I'll get some photos done as soon as I can.

Hi Stefan,

Nice work mate, looking good. Hopefully get some pictures posted of my progress this week (now the wife's back to work, can't paint while she's in the house as she's asthmatic).

It is a nice banner don't you think , thought it about time for a new one.

Hey Lewis, thanks for the okay to join with the old 1/48 Aurora Long Tom. I found the antique while rummaging around the basement. I've started stripping and disassembly. It seems that brake fluid does a pretty good job at stripping old enamel and even degraded the glue without harming the plastic. As you'll see in the pictures it didn't touch some glossy black paint that for whatever reason was painted on it. I have no idea what that paint is but it's so strong that it barely responds to sanding. I don't want to be too rough and damage the plastic.

First the overall parts:

As you can see, I've got the breech pieces apart.

A little more work and the barrel halves were separated and are already sanded down for re-gluing.

Like the real overhaulers I'll have to go rummaging around scrap yards (the basement) looking for replacement parts for the two wheeled limber and the breech support.

BTW, I also have found two M8 ammunition carriers. They are also Aurora 1/48 scale and both are in horrendous shape. From a quick perusal I think that between the two I might be able to restore one to original condition.

Cheers,
tread_geek
