Hi folks,
Here's an update with the BMP-2. I've got the tracks to put on, a wash or two and a shedload of weathering!

Here are a few more inprogress pictures. I put the first coats of white using an airbrush. First time in about 14 or more years. I have to do the final coats of white on the complete hull and hatches. Then it should just be final assembly and decals.
All comments welcome.

Hi Tom,
You'll need a good few coats of white. My model took six in the end!
Anywho, here is my BMP-2 with a dirty wash:

Eion,
I din't realize how much paint it was going to take. I ran out of white so, I made the run to the nearest hobby shop today. Picked up a couple bottles of white and a few other colors for the next projects. So hopefully tommorrow I will finish painting it. Thanks for the comment. Your project came out great.

Tom,
From now on all my models are going to be painted US Olive Drab!
Also, be careful using a wash- white is very unforgiving! I made up my own wash by diluting black acryllic- it was great at first but I made the mistake of not keeping the wash stirred. At the start the wash was very dilute but as I used more of it, the paint was settling so by the end the wash was getting darker and heavier- especially at the rear of the model. If it was an olive Sherman I would have gotten away with it! Again I painted over the wash with white- it lightened it, but only very slightly. So instead of patiently putting a few more coats of white on, I leathered the thing with dust!

Eoin,
I don't think I will ever do an all white vehicle again. I don't know how many coats I ended up with. But during it I had just picked up some more flat white from a hobby shop and one ended up beong enamal. I was wondering why it wouldn't spray when I diluted it with water. Luckly none sprayed on the model. So today I am going back to the hobby shop and get a replacement bottle. It was mixed in with the acrylic paints. I didn't check it the first bottle was correct. Hopefully today I can start doing the final assembly.

Tom,
Good luck with final assembly!
Back home 99% of model paints are enamel, so I've to go to a Fantasy/Sci-Fi shop to pick up acryllics. Recently I was painting a figure when I thinned some enamel to tone down the camo on the jacket. Whatever the hell paint reacted and where I had applied it, after ten minutes the whole thing had turned white! The closest explanation for it I got to date was that the enamel pot must have been in the model shop for years cos newer enamels are a different, less toxic formula and that's what reacted!
Anywho, I'm finding acryllics (apart from white!) as easy to use but with far less chemical fumes (from the thinners etc.) in the mix!

David, looks like it turned out pretty nice despite the bad kit. i always say after a project that i wish i could have done this or that better but i also say i tried my best. that's what it takes to learn and progress in this hobby, trying one's best and chocking it all up to experience, in my humble opinion.
even Verlinden, Pruneau and Letterman had to go through the same challenges to get where they're at skill-wise. saying that, i really like the truck you made... cool subject. cheers, mh.

i posted my contribution in the campaign gallery but here it is:
this is my very first campaign and i joined really late. not sure what i'm supposed to do? it's Revell's old Fuchs kit shown to be in the ISAF Operations, Afghanistan 2003. I put a small inset pic of the actual vehicle too.
i glued it into a diorama before taking standalone pics because i am such a noob to campaigns. these white vehicles are tough to paint. i used an underpainting technique of raw umber along panel lines and then a subtle colour modulation treatment. great work everyone. cheers, mh.

Well now that I am able to access Photo-Bucket, I have to go through Internet Explorer. I want to add some other pictures of my completed entery. The kit is Tamiya's 35140 M113, the 50cal is from Academy kit 1384 US machine gun set. I used some parts from Eduard's 35020 M113 ACAV set, the UN decals are from Easy Decal. The ammo box decal is from Archer's 77010 Nato Ammo Box set, and the Admin numbers are made from 1,7mm dry transfer leters and clear decal sheet. It is painted with all acrylic paints from Model Master, Tamiya and Vallejo. Figures and weathering will be done later.
As aways all comments are welcome. Now it is time to move onto the other campaigns I am enlisted in.
