Awesome work Rick! the PE looks excellent. The detail on this build is brilliant and I cant wait to see it finished.
Are you planning on using any stowage or crew sets for this one?
Thanks a lot for the brake line diagrams, they'll be really useful for my ASLAV

Thanks and your welcome!
I have the stowage set for the LAV III from Real Models and also the Canadian Tankers set from RM as well. Will most likely scratch some of the sensor bags, don't know how or with what yet though lol.

Got most of the left side done tonight, just the headlight guards and spare tire rack left for the hull.
Had a hell of a time straping down the pioneer tools in the rack LOL.
'till next time

Great build Rick, plenty of things for me to look at for when I get around to do mine.
Oh found this on youtube of what the Canadians put the LAV's through.

I'm kind of surprised Trumpy has not even announced a yote. I figured we'd have seen one by now given the ASLAV, at least before seeing the AVGP fleet.
The pioneer tool rack & cage look amazing. That detail is worth the price of the RM set for sure.

Yes it's very nice. Easy to build as well, I just soldered mine for more strenght.
The only issue with the pioneer tools is that I cannot for the life of me find the pick axe handle in the ASLAV kit. They supply the ax head (although a little large I think) but no handle. I also had to massively trim the shovel blade, sledge hammer head and axe head to make them fit.

Good plan leaving it loose - i wondered how you were going to paint the tools. I found the same dealie with my LAV-III tools ; they were on the chunky side.
I need to see if Milo will sell me that tool cage fret separately as I want to add it on to my RCMP TAV-II.

Got most of the spare tire mount done, just some more cargo straps to build.
Made some pins for the upper mounts.
I have seen several pics of different attachments for the lower mount, from the original long "D" rings to two or three smaller ones or sometimes cargo straps LOL. So I decided to make one side with the long "D" ring and the other side with two.
Also built the spare tire holder from evergreen strap and Grant Line bolts.
And these came in the mail the other day
These really add the detail, a little finicky to build but well worth it.
And I added some footman loops to the bracket and some square ends as per my references. I guess it also helps that I was on the team that built the original spare tire racks for the first Coyote tour in Bosnia LOL.
cheers

Wow, I wasn't aware of that PE set with the ratchet strap goodies....I'm building an M1117 with a tow bar swiped from a DML Abrams kit and the Guardian I'm modeling showed the bar held up with a ratchet strap and I was dreading having to scratchbuild the mechanism...
Great build on the Coyote, btw...looking forward to more progress pics

Been following this since you started with great interest.
Very Cool Build and an awesome source of info for my own scratch build project.
I've seen that PE ratchet Tie-down set, where did you purchase the set?
The Tire Rack Frame I am presuming on the real thing is 1.5 to 2 inch square tubing?
Emil

Well I think that I finally finished the hull LOL. Those light guards are a real PITA. Added some wire for the headlights as well.
And got started on the turret, lotsa fun here LOL.
People say that some of these conversions are expensive, while they can be more than double the price the base kits, it takes FOREVER to build with all the photoetch and resin, so in my humble opinion the value for dollar with regards to build time is huge
just noticed after posting that the upper rail on the side basket is outa wack , gonna have to fix that.
cheers

Hey Rick I'm just getting into using P.E. and so far I haven't had any troubles, but I was wondering what your hold and fold cost? I've been building my LAV III TUA and it came with some P.E. and so far it's been going pretty good, I just started working on the turret last night.

Talk about heavy on the details. This looks like an awesome build. Can't wait to see some paint on it. I've recently begun using pe, but hope to become as good as you. Probably help if I wasn't cheap and buy a hold and fold.

Hey Bertie,
I think that I paid around $60.00 for the hold & fold, it was a while ago and I do suffer from CRS

Ya the details are awesome! The only time you need the hold & fold is for the really long parts, 90% of the time it's just tweezers . Even then some people use just two razor blades, one to hold one to fold LOL.

Ok thanks Rick I'm doing my TUA in desert tan, I saw pictures of the Coyote in Afghanistan with what appeared to be desert tan paint so I'm taking that as inspiration. I was thinking of building a Coyote, but I think I'm going to wait for the Cougar AVGP to come out a friend of mine asked me if I could build one for him so I'll have my hands full.

Your welcome.
Ya the Cougar is supposed to be released in April. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump released a modern Coyote, wouldn't take too much working from their ASLAV.

I really must be crazy!?!
I ordered these nuts and bolts from Scale Hardware to use on the blast shield ballistic windows. They are .5mm LOL.
Had to drill out the blast shields and window frames with a .52mm drill bit.
Ater they are all tightened up it was just a matter of trimming the bolts with side cutters and a few swipes with a sanding stick and your GTG!
One down, six more to go!
cheers

Good day troops,
Got the blast shields finally complete . These were a bugger LOL. The left side went well, but the right side not so much. I had to split the shield up in two and trim the rear section to make it sit at the proper angle.
This is how it sits now, just a few odds and ends left .
cheers

G'day Rick,
I've been watching this build from the start, and have been very impressed.
The mesh for the bottom of the baskets needs to be inside the basket not outside.
And If you want to be really picky there is no boarder around the mesh on any of the panels. On the rear basket, the bottom "L" shaped lengths are not attached to the back of the turret, but are welded on to a round rod that runs the length of the back of the turret. As shown below on an ASLAV. And backed up here.

http://data3.primeportal.net/apc/dan_hay/lav/images/lav_198_of_241.jpg
Works the same way for the side baskets.
Cheers Jason
