What kit and version / nationality do you think you'll do ?

Cheers

Paul

Hey Paul, Bombers fan here, red and black all the way !!

I've always been fascinated by the T34 Calliope, so I might try and track one down. Any advice would be very welcome.

Cheers, D

Cheers Damian,

I know Revell have a 1/35 Calliope kit. The Calliope is one hell of a machine I must say

I'm not sure about AM conversions, but I know that Verlinden have one out there that you may be able to get if you need an AM version.

Any tips for Damian for his build guys ?

Cheers

Paul

Stay away from the revell kit tracks

Uhmmm you can go with the New Dragon M4 Sherman normandy with a verlinden conversion or the revell turret on the M4 hull.

Good luck

I think Monogram also put one out, don't know about your chances of getting one though

Thanks for the feedback for Damian, Thomo & Martin

Perhaps the New Dragon M and Verlinden conversion is the go Damian ? Check out the prices on EvilBay for a guide.

Guys, we're up to 28 starters

Lets get a lot more ..... and lets help each other out in this Campaign Lot's of pics, lots of ideas, and lots of feedback for participants please

I encourage starters to do more than 1 model if possible, we have 12 months - so there is a lot of time to fit a couple of 'Shermies' into your busy schedules

Cheers

Paul

Oh alright!
I'm in also..( My failure to complete anything not withstanding )
I am aiming in the direction of the DML M4A3(76)W (the updated one) and maybe a nice little diorama scene to fit it into...

This will be my first campaign so I have a question. Will the progress pictures just be posted to this thread? Is there a special place to post the pictures? I want you guys to see my work to give me pointers along the way.

The best place to post progress pics Albert will be in the Sherman Campaign Thread.

We will probably start an official Build Thread once we get going - lets see as we get closer. If we do I will post info here.

This thread is for recruitment and for getting the Campaign going - I think another for all of the builds would be the best idea. Any feedback / thoughts ?

The other option for you Albert would be to open a thread for your build (Build log) and open it up to the broader Armorama community.

You'll get a lot of help along the way from all of the guys here, regardless, I'm sure.

I'm keen to see what you 'end up' doing.

Hi Robert,

Count me in, I entered the last campaign and only got as far as getting the box open!! Since then the Sherman pile has grown, so this would be good motivation to get some built.

Al

Hello Alan, if you need to unload some of the sherm stuff let me know anyway I will be following you progress.

@ Damian: Just remember the Sherman does not have a prop but still makes a loud noise Glad to see you here

Well my kit arrived today

Off to the stash with it for a few months

I think it'll do nicely - it's a shame Tasca don't do one of these yet ....

A few Ultracast Crew will set it off

Hey Paul I'm thinking of working off a period photo dated around July/August 1944. From an independent tank battalion, and will have little in the way of markings. The tank in question had struck an anti personnel mine, so will be a good opportunity to sculpt a crewman or two in suitable poses inspecting the damage...

Ok guys, my annoying questions start . . . . . . . NOW !!

I would like to stick with 1/35, and the Revell Calliope looks like the only OOB option here. From some reports it might be a bit of a dog, and maybe not the best for my first tank build.

Any comments on the 1/35 Italeri M4A3 (kit #6440) or the Dragon M4A3E8 Thunderbolt ??

Thanks, D

Hey Damian:
I would go with the Italeri M4A3, its not a bad kit straight forward construction and a nice looking finished tank. Oh forget the rivit counting just have fun.

Hiya Paul. My armour stash consist exclusively of an AFV club Churchill that I won at my club raffle, so I will be making a purchase at some stage to partake here.

I just want to make sure I don't get a kit that will put me off armour builds for life !!

Hey Damian,

Depending on how complex a build you want, there are several options, it also depends on what country you want your Sherman to represent.

Eg: Tamiya M4A3 will go together simply, it'll need a little extra work but it is pretty much hassle free and a quick one to do. Especially as an intro to AFV modelling...

Tasca do a brilliant Sherman III, M4A1 or a Firefly VC. These go together really well !! And the result will be brilliant - they are expensive though.

Do you want a kit that you can throw together with no hassle ?

Do you want something from WWII ? US or Commonwealth etc ? Or something a little later ?

Seeing this is your first armor model perhaps something reasonably straight forward may be in order, however seeing you do those 'wingy' things you will probably do a great job with whatever you decide on

Thoughts ?

Paul

Hi Paul. I think I would like to stick with 1/35 scale, and I'm not worried about having a more complex (mixed media or lots of parts) kit. What I don't want to have to deal with as an intro to armour is fit issues, gaps a mile wide to fill, or tracks that will end up thrown across the room

As for era, my main interest in aircraft is WWII, but I'm not necessarily fixed on that for this build, nor am I fixed on a particular country. I'm sure I will find a scheme that will take my interest, but my main aim is to get the basic kit choice right to start with.

Cheers, and thanks for your help, Damian
