Silantra -- I really like the job you've done on your chipping. Can you please tell me what color paint you used and what your technique was? Fine brush, scouring pad, etc....

Zaidi, one of the nicest Sherman builds that I've seen. The weathering is fantastic. This is also the most attractive Sherman model IMHO ever with the cast hull, early wheels and turret. Stevie.

Pat, really nice build. I like the colour - what is it? I'm building an Academy Red Army Sherman and 2 Dragon Red Army Shermans along with another 9 Shermans! I'm not a Sherman expert (I should be by now!), but should the bogies not be the later upswept type?????

I was in my local Wargaming shop and found a spray can of US Armor color by "Flames of war" so that's the base coat with filter layers of Lifecolor faded OD over that.

AAARGH Cr*p! how did I miss that? That's the suspension supplied with the kit. I wouldn't mind but I've been pouring over the Model Centrum M4A2 book
Luckily I have a box of built up Sherman suspensions so I can swap it for the upswept type.

Thanks all for the kind words...this is my first ever completed model in 2 years..and I'm trying some new techniques and trying new product. I was so amazed with the result...

matter of fact, i just got back from our local modelling competition.. this sherman won a silver medal... lucky me..

The chipping was done using fine brush (tamiya #000). colo used was vallejo german brown cammo. some part i used sponge dabbed on a paper and dabbed on the model. the brush i just used artictic licence to get it done... i dont know how to explain in words but i just draw random lines, random lightning-like shape along the edges.... and some random dots apply lightly with the tip of that 000 brush...

good luck all, there are still plenty of time to start yours... i plan to start another kit M4 Normandy but due to work i have to skip the build....

keep it good guys...i see good progress so far

I'm doing Tasca's Easy 8. The track links are a total hassle. I'm going to try Friul and maybe something else. I'll post an update.

I'm going to mix some rust pigment with Tamiya's Flat Earth to simulate dried mud and dirt. Then I'm going to add the canvas to the engine deck and call it done.

Nice work Stanley.

One entry per Campaign though. I see you are posting this build on the "Land down under" Campaign also.

You will need to choose which Campaign you enter it in.

@ Pat that lend lease Shermie looks great - thanks for the build here

@ Dave - keep up the good work. I've yet to see the Easy 8 built, and I have one here

Cheers

The suspension on the E8 was a bit of a nightmare. As you can see in the photo, the bit that's supposed to make it movable is impossibly small. I hate to admit it, but I ended up just gluing the shock absorber to the mounts.

I'd probably build it up as immovable anyway. Couldn't be as complicated as the DML Easy 8 suspension IIRC 28 seperate parts with brass slieves and tiny springs,

Dave, I feel your pain! While I'm still throwing paints on my own campaign build I'm also throwing together Tasca's new Korea version of the Easy-Eight for a review (hopefully will submit it this weekend...). Those tiny half-brackets are a real nightmare to clean up and add - especially if you want it all to move afterwards. I found the bogies don't quite move realistically anyway because that damper across the top cannot compress, so as one wheel goes up the other must go down.

Paul,

I haven’t done a thing in starting my build for this campaign. Many of the items that I had ordered for my build finally arrived and I was also involved in another campaign. So I regret in having to un-enlist myself from this campaign. However, I plan on starting a dedicated build log over in the IDF forum on the M51 Sherman sometime towards the end of this year or early next year as I now have just the items and reference materials that I need to do that build justice. Did I mention that I somehow enlisted myself in four other campaigns finishing in December? I did notice that you are hosting the Eastern European Steel Campaign. See you there!

I have the old Dragon M51 kit (kit #3529) and thought briefly about trying for this campaign but no way I'd make it. However, there is the "Sands of Israel" campaign coming up at the end of October.

I need to pick up some titanium white oils and I'll weather, fade, streak, and finish my M4A3.

As I mentioned in my first post, the kit supplied individual links are a pain to assemble. I ordered the Friul set, and they're easier, but still a lot of work. Purists cover your eyes, because the third alternative is AFV's "rubber bands". Below are all three just primed to even the field. Below the pictures I'll let you know which is which.

left to right, kit, Friul, AFV

The AFV looks good from the front, but the reverse is poor compared to the other two. With only a month to go, I'm afraid I'll have to opt for the AFV for now.
