Spent some quality time with the M4A1 DV today, and painted the camo scheme. Paints wer Model Master Acrylic thinned 2 to 1 with Tamiya X20-A.

Actually up until now it's been basically just a well engineered model that needed almost no tweaking other then the turret weld seam. The kit just fell together in a week's time. Painting was just as easy, prime, base coat, then the camo color. After decaling comes the start of my learning curve, weathering. I've got a game plan, but it's going to take about a month or so to get through it.

BTW, it's been really quiet around here considering there are 60 guys signed up for the campaign. Is it because it runs a year, that most guys don't get into it till later on

I'm thinking of moving my build to the constructive Criticism forum, just to get more feed back, especially with weathering coming up soon.

Hi guys, sorry for the lack of progress pics I have been limiting the use of my camera since someone ie: daughter, has lost the charger
But here is what I'm up to the building is just about complete, top hull is dry fitted to the lower
no major problems with it just some tricky stuff with some un-clear instruction steps
This is my 1st AFV by Academy and its a pretty nice kit I'll have to see what they have in German Armor

@ Joel: what color and brand are you using for the sand on your M4A1, looks like what I need for my M3 Grant.

@ Tomek: that looks like a good kit just too small for my eyes to work on. WOW! lots and lots of wheels to paint also, good job..

@ Sal: I have an open top M10 but cannot work up the courage to build it since that area needs so much TLC and it will show everyone what I missed. My hat is off to you for your courage to tackle that DUCKBILL, will wait for more photos to give me some idea what I am in for later. BTW how is everyone doing since you have claimed the basement for your own?

It's a mix of Model Master Acryic 4812 US Army/Marines Gulf Armor with a few drops of yellow and a few drops of white. After a darkish filter, then several oil washes, I really don't think it paid to lighten up the original color.

Joel, thanks for the information. I think that I should play more with white on my mixing after your suggestion regarding the dark wash.

Im still working in the kitchen but the AB is down in the basement, daughter took camera even though she has 2 of her own and now she just bought herself a $1000.00 Nikon, she takes photography @ camp, and yes I am in trouble, but hey what did I save all my life for but to pay for her schooling

So, I still have a lingering question... is the M4 81mm Mortar or the M16 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage (MGMC) considered a tracked vehicle? I only ask as I'm not really feeling the Bradley for this build, and I want to save it for a build early in 2012. If they aren't acceptable I have a couple of M7s (Dragon and Academy) and some Shermans that would fit the bill as well.

I'm surprised that in today's computer driven model mold design, that a seam of that magnitude would be considered acceptable. You've got some serious removal work to do there. Careful filing and sanding should that care of all of it. Good luck with it, and your build. I'm looking forward to seeing your end results with the that seam removal job.

Matt I was going to roll with an M-4 81mm Mortar Carriage when this campaign 1st started and the campaign leader said it was acceptable. It has tracks is armored and has a 81 mm tube So if it was a go for me I don't see why it wouldn't be ok for you

I knew you originally were going to do the M4, but then when I saw your build with the tank destroyer I thought the M4 was decided as a no-go. Good to know, but I'm not sure if I do that, or I do the Bradley, or a Sherman. Bah. Decisions, decisions.

Matt your OK to go with the M-4 it has tracks so its no problem to go with it.

Thanks for the clarification. By the way, all your Photobucket photos are an error for me, something about exceeding bandwidth. Does that reset every month, or am I gonna have to guess at which Bradley version you are doing?

Matt, I'm surprised that you're having an issue with pictures that are posted on Photobucket. All of mine are posted there as well? Are you having any problems with mine? I so, I'll try to correct the issues.

I can see all of your Sherman photos just fine. I think Scott may have so many through all the campaigns, that the viewing bandwidth has been exceeded. It happens on some photo sharing services. He needs to stop being so cheap and upgrade to a premium account...

I really like your DV Sherman, nice and clean, and the paint job is really well don. I have the same kit, but I like to build something different from the other campaigners for variety and a better overall campaign experience. I have your M4A1 DV, then the M4A3 (76), a Sherman Mk.III and the Firefly Vc from Dragon. Then it's the two Dragon halftracks (the M4 mortar carrier and the M16 MGMC), and an M7 Priest. I thought about one of the Abrams I have, both older Dragon kits (M1A1-HA from 1992 and the M1A2 from the mid 90s), but my display cabinet hates modern armor. I looked at my M18 Hellcat from AFV Club, but I just finished a StuG IIIB and M10 Wolverine for campaigns, and need a break from tank destroyers. Maybe I should put it up to a vote for the campaigners...

hay all the kit is from the 70's or late 80's so it should be fue and a lot of work i'm still trying to figuer out if i nead to remove the tabs from behind the wheels can any one hellp thanks dave

Well, I finished my Dragon M4A1 DV Sherman,and tried to upload some pictures into the campaign photo gallery, but I keep on getting the message that I can't upload pictures to this gallery. Can anyone help me out?

Hmm. The only thing I can think of would be that you need to login at the photo gallery. Sometimes when you jump from here to the photo gallery, it doesn't necessarily sign you in.

ref the tab behind wheels. look in instructions on placement for suspension, i believe those are attachement points for shock absorbers, and please let me know if i am incorrect.
