Darren, are you using the kit-supplied barrel?
If I remember correctly, there is only one AM barrel for these tanks which is a multimedia piece that has undersized resin pieces on it... will have to verify this though.

Here are the two Challenger 2 tanks built using Trumpeter's mid release kits, I have not bought the first Challenger 2 Trumpeter released and I will build the latest Challenger 2 they have released for this campaign. They are by no means finished but most of the detail painting has been done with the weathering not far away from being started, and I know the tracks on the Challenger 2 with the dozer blade need some work.

Hi all!

Got a question: what if's allowed, right? I was thinking of maybe building the wonderful Azimut Deerhound in british markings. I know, the british never warmed to a big scout car and the Deerhound was also offered to the US Army, again in vain.
But I got meself some nice Staghound decals for it (ooohhh, I'm drooling, yanow..) and I'm going to do a british AFV as it would have appeared in Europe, either here or in a solo-build log.

SO, If you wanna see it here, tell me. I could'nt find a 'no what ifs' in the regs. But you decide....

Thanks for doing this btw Stanley!

Hi Darren,

Nice work. A bit early but keeping the idea alive

No decision yet as to what to build, Sherman, Churchill, Valentine or Matilda but probably one of those 4.

Hi all, nice looking challengers Darren. There such a good looking vehicle!
I was wondering if Resin kits will be okay? I have an A30 Challenger (WWII) i recently purchased and would really like to build it for the campaign.
I will be doing at least 2 builds as i have a large stash of British vehicles!
Cheers,
Tim

Easy Stan, don't sweat it.

When I asked you to decide, I meant it.

So...

How about a Shermie then? Cricklade or Clive? I know it's been done before, but well...I just love those two markings.

Thanks for hosting this btw!!

Hi all!

Count me in! I think I'll start my Chieftain Mk.10 (maybe with Berlin Brigade camo).

Darren: Those are looking really good, I may have to pick up one of the dozer kits myself. I'm not sure if I asked you this before, but I was wondering if you've had a crack at the Tamiya desertized Chally II, and if so I was wondering what your thoughts are compared to the Trumpeter offerings?

I have not touched the Tamiya Challenger 2 kits but I suspect progress will be easier, however i can buy two Trumpeter Challenger 2s from the first 3 versions released for less than the price of the Tamiya kit (I have considered it as it is in one of my local shops). The latest Challenger 2 from Trumpeter has the dozer blade sprue in the box.

Wait until you see what I have used for the aerials on these Challenger 2s

Darren: No prob, just a curiosity. They're about equally priced over here, and I managed to find a couple of the Tamiya desertized Chally II's on clearance at a craft store for a nice price. I may start off with building one of those up and try out some of that paint that I mentioned before for the textured surfaces. I'm still going to pick up some of those Trumpeter kits, I really like the way they are turning out.

One of the big benefits of the Tamiya offering is that the turret is a single moulding unlike Trumpeter, and interestingly Trumpeter have taken this approach with their latest edition of the Challenger 2. What I mean by this is that the earlier Challenger 2's have separate bins around the turret and it is difficult to even get close to a good finish.

There is an opportunity for the after market companies to make a resin insert for the turrets to show all the handles and bits and pieces below the holes in the turret roof.

I remember you mentioning that about the earlier Trumpeter kits, good to know they changed that. I think the Tamiya kits come with one piece vinyl tracks, which means I'm definitely going to want to replace them with some AM indies.

I don't know much about the British armour, but I think I have an idea of what you are talking about. How easy do you think those would be to scratch?

It would be easy to insert a panel and add handles and other oddes and sods to get the general look right, however if accuracy is your goal you will struggle.
