My thanks to all the recent "volunteers" for this proposal (Marc, Chris, Mike, Sabot). If you check my chart above you will see that our numbers have swollen to fifteen. Not too shabby for only the couple of days that this has been up. Your predisposition's have been noted in the chart and it's clear what direction the majority want this campaign to go.

pOr we can have folks building Airfix (or those who plan to super-detail a kit) a little something extra in their ribbon -- like what the Germans did with their Iron Cross awards -- some had oak leaves, oak leaves + swords, etc. It incents folks to either stretch / test their skills or settle for something simpler***

Tat, I investigated the issue of different or graduated ribbons for the Matchbox campaign and sadly it is a no-starter. The Kitmaker system does not support that feature, nor does it allow for the awarding of more than one ribbon per participant. It's a shame but a limitation that we'll have to live with.

PS ***and we all thought that building those Matchbox kits were that easy.

That is one major lesson that I learned from that campaign. That is also why I chose a longer time frame for this campaign to run. We also had a number of new modellers/members that had their own share of problems and that is why I extended the last campaign.

Hmmm, where have all those Airfix gone?

Anyway, I've taken note of all your ideas and will try to get the basics together as far as rules are concerned. At this point the two primary items that will pertain is that this will be a Braille Campaign and it will permit unfinished or incomplete builds. More to follow.

Cheers,

Hi folks,

I'd vote for either the 'any 1/144- 1/76 campaign' as opposed to limiting it to Airfix.

The 'finish the build campaign' also gets a nod from me if only to help clear my backlog and finally finish one or two of those kits that I left down ages ago saying 'I'll finish that once I've finished that nice shiny brand new 1/35 kit i bought yesterday!'

I would say "Ay" for Airfix or 1/144-1/72 alternatives. I have a friend, who has a huuuge and I mean huge, stash of different kits in all scales, varietys and ages. Oldest kits are from 60´s. Anyway, main point is, that he has a shelf for kits, which he has 2 or 3 pieces in his stash and there were some old Airfix kits for sale. I have in my mind Scammel and RAF refuelling set from Airfix.

Welcome Eoin.

@ TacFireGuru - I am working on the currently working on the submission and rules. I might get it in today or tomorrow at the latest. We obviously have more than the required minimum of interested parties.

@ casualmodeler - It's nice to see you interested in this one, Kimmo.

Is everyone okay with the start and ending dates? I have decided to have it start on Novemeber 1 as opposed to 15.

Cheers,
Jan

May I suggest June/July 2011 as a finish date?

Jeremy, unless there are special circumstances they generally strongly recommend that campaigns not run more than six months. I made the mistake of having the Matchbox campaign too short so this one will be longer and run from November 1, 2010 until May 1, 2011. that will give everyone a full six months.

@Everyone - I submitted the campaign proposal this afternoon and now we wait to see if it's approved. Depending on what happens we may need to alter the start and finish dates. Approval generally can take two weeks. Once approved we can start on campaign Banners and the award.

Here is the submitted proposal:

pBraille Battlefield

Many modellers, even if it is not their preferred scale, have Braille scale kits in their stash. They may also have kits in the scale started but languishing on the work bench or forlorn in a box. The purpose of this campaign is two fold. Firstly, it is to be an incentive for individuals to finish started kits in the Braille scale range. The second is to have those that have not recently or ever built a Braille scale kit to give one a try. Your job will be to move the subject into your motor pool facilities and construct and/or finish it.

1. Any manufacturer is acceptable, provided it fits within the allowed scale range.

2. The kit could have been started but must have parts remaining to be added and/or be predominantly unpainted. Enlistee must post one picture of the incomplete model in the campaign thread.

3. For new kits the Enlistee must post one picture of the sprues in the campaign thread.

4. Out of box (OOB) builds are acceptable but enhancements are permitted.

5. It is encouraged that participants post progress pictures of their build in the campaign thread.

6. If in doubt about any rule, please inquire in the campaign thread.

7. Enjoy the thrills, skills and challenges that building Braille scale can give.

Contest Element

To qualify for a ribbon entrants must complete one model from scratch or finish two uncompleted models.

Entrants that complete their build and submit at least one photo of each completed model in the official campaign gallery will be awarded the prestigious campaign ribbon. Multiple submissions are welcomed but only one ribbon per entrant will be awarded on completion of the campaign requirements.

Enlisted Jan.

T-34 with ground work (both unfinished) and I may do that 1/76'er "whateveritis' that's down in the shop. Maybe a Sherman too.

Jan: Sounds good. For some reason the campaign seemed shorter than 6 months, but that's what I get for putting in to many hours at work and not sleeping enough

I may try some resin kits for this campaign if there is no objection?

Well, this took off fast. I have three options at the moment: Matchbox LRDG and T34/76 as well as an Airfix Matilda.

Cheers!

Stefan, I also have a started and not completed LRDG. It'll be hard not to touch it further but I must set the example. Actually I could use the finishing option a fair amount as I believe that I have half a dozen partial builds from pre-sabbatical from the hobby days.

@ Everyone - As we got approved so quickly I was rather unprepared in a few areas. I have whipped up a couple of initial Campaign Banners. Anyone can use them if they wish. I'll try to come up with something a bit more eye-catching over the next week or so.

If anyone has anything they would like to see in a Banner feel freee to express your thoughts or artistic skills.

Cheers,
Jan

Welcome Leighton. Glad to have you join our "little" (pun intended) campaign. I see from your profile that this will be your first campaign. If you have any questions about how these things run, please feel free to ask.

I've enlisted as well. A pleasure to join another campaign of yours Jan. Still have to decide which among the 1/72 Trumpeters to build -- a couple of Sturmtigers and and a Tiger Initial. Too bad about the limitations on the design of the award / pin -- no worries.

Coming to the new campaign, I guess most of us Matchbox campaign vets would now regard these small kits to be more than just a quick and simple build then.

Any of you guys know about Fine Cast Models? I seem to recall that they had 1/76 armor -- like the Bar, and some other paper panzer stuff. Last time I checked its all aircraft. Or did I get the brand wrong? Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Welcome again, Tat. Nice to see the "friendly faces" in this campaign. Don't get me wrong, all are welcome but after what we went through in the last campaign, it 's like a band of it's own.

To all the participants, this may not prove to be a "walk in the park." Small scale has it's own unique issues and that's why some of us enjoy it. This is all about having a good time and some fun.

Amen to that, I'm hoping my first small scale build turns out well for the Miniart Diorama campaign.

Great idea. I am in for this one and have signed up

Is it just me or is this campaign open to things that fly as well?

Welcome Jesper. As for your question, you've brought up an interesting issue. This is an Armorama Campaign and Armorama deals specifically with land based systems such as guns, tanks, trucks, AFV's. In the campaign operational overview is the statement that you bring the subject into "your motor pool" for building/completion. That in most cases strongly implies a piece of ground equipment. There is no mention of hangar or dry-dock. While it's true that I have seen a few campaigns here where exceptions have been made that cross Kitmaker sites/subjects, that wasn't my intention for this campaign. While open to interpretation the general consensus by Web glossaries is that Braille Scale refers to 1/72 and smaller ground based military equipment.

We have a couple of months to go before our start date so I will temporarily reserve making an absolute ruling. However, at this point I'd say that an exception could be made for things such as ground based equipment such as aircraft service equipment vehicles in a diorama setting. Hasegawa made a 1/72 modern ground service equipment set and Airfix had their RAF refuelling set and a maintenance set. In this type of diorama setting I could absolutely allow an aircraft being present.

Cheers,
Jan

Hi all. While I haven't signed up yet I probably will and I have a question or two. If I read correctly, you need to complete two unfinished models or one model from scratch? I have an unfinished 1/76 Panzer I. It is base coated but the suspension is not done (except for the wheels on) and there are still about eight or nine parts left to put on. I've had this thing sitting around for ages. Here's a picture.

Would this count?

AJ

Ah, you need to finish two kits... I would suggest you put that in the rules and regs section and not in the contest element...

Do the LRDG Chevy and the SAS Jeep count as 2? Or: I haven't started on the Chevy yet, so would it count as a new one? Just kidding... I'll pick one of the others.

Cheers!
