Damn! I can't believe I never noticed this thread before. I'm very interested in this vehicle and have wanted to build one for a long time.
You've done a great job on this kit.. I'll be following the rest of your build with great interest.
Very useful links in this thread, by the way

and Frenchy, better late then never great set of pictures you added, the last one gave me courage for my tire issue, how to flatten them realisticly, guess cutting a part off wil do the trick just fine

Hey ThaPit- glad to see this build still going strong. Stellar job on the cab- what did you use for the seat springs?

found some spools of fine (0.3-mm) copperwire, smooth and ribbed, i used the ribbed ones for the springs, just stuck some bend pieces inbetween layers, giving the impression of contorted springs ... I hope
frame was build using thicker copper wire, I guess 1mm .

some more thingies in the cabin, added some "wanne be " electronics and some molten rubbersils for the windows, made mirror handles with wire, and "broke " the mirrors
removed the samll boxes on the rear ,added a larger one, having some problems figuring out the layout of the wheel, and came to the conclusion the wheels need to be cast, the rubber is literaly melting the hubs!!
fun fun fun

some painting started on the interior of the cab, so I can close this up and start finnishing the exterior and paint the thing
hope you guys like it, still got some more detailpainting to do, and pigmentation
started with a coat of dark brown sienna black mix,
then applied future, put hairspray on,
gave it a coat of green, and ripped most of the green back off
then a wash with burned sienna/lamp black oils
and some touches of brown, and grey for the alu parts, still lots to do

You've managed to convey the fire damage really well. The process you used works great.

after comming to the conclusion that the rims where being eaten by the rubber tyres, i decided to try and make some in resin, that was a succes, and then i made some flat tires with putty, carfiller, magicsculpt, mr surfacer, and then made other molds for flat tires, here are the first results, and I'm pleased of the result so far, hope you guys like my resin skills
a little bit of fine tuning here and there and I can proceed with the build
still one question for the experts, on the right side of the cab there are 2 pipes coming from below with flexible, are they airvents for the diff ?

just make a jig with some small nails or needles, to make the weave patern and you're off, it doesn't have to "spot on ", burned out vehicles seldom are

Matt, you're making me blush
thanks for the positive comments, the only thing i had to do was fix the pressure attachment thingies, they hadn't been moulded properly, bigginers mistakes I guess, I casted them sepparate in some clay, the cut of most of the misformed parts and cleaned up with some putty, and MrS 500
Had to fill some minnor bubbles in the tread, but that's because i don't have vacuum to form my molds
in all a decent first, already tried a I beam, and it came out perfect, just had to straighten some ,it was still to soft when i took it out, impatient me
well gave the chassis a coat of black, the back parts a coat of Beige, and tomorrow, we'll start that chiipin the back thing

began painting, but putting the engine in, and fitting the exhaust after painting, is ,well, nerve wrecking ...
still , got the D&é@ thing in together with the gearbox, painted the lower parts matt black, (shiny because of protective coat ,floor cleaner )
the back parts got a beige colour, and a coat of sealer, and the cab and tire rack got a blackbrownish burned coat , filling the difficult to reach parts with a brush, luckily a burned wreck leaves some space for my "painting techniques",
oh, before I forget, just got the Meng Hilux, guess where it is going to end up next to ...
I'm thinking of painting it matt black with, green and red bands, and a purple hood, like the "rebels" from misurata, ..
I'm also going to skipp the gun for a 12.5 mm AA tank gun,
http://karakullake.blogspot.com/2011/03/that-libyan-rebel-toyota-hiluxmay-be.html
this one looks the part!

and guess where I found those,
