hello, I am currently cleaning up , and building the ICM Grad21 on Ural kit, lot's of moldseams, and flash, sinkholes, but having build a revell Ural a while ago,I'm familiar with the "work" involved.
as being said I already collected some links , and followed the builds here on armorama, not trying to make it a super detailed one, but want to experiment some building a wrecked/burned vehicle.
I'm going to do one like this picture

something like that

any further help or pictures are welcome

I used this link in my ural build, might be of intrest to you

a day later then promised, but here are the wip of the clean up, I have to say, what a dog of a kit, lot's to clean up and fill, but hey it's a hobby

only managed to put the rocketlauncher together, added some detail, but not to be super exact, just to "pimp" the old bugger

lckily I had a second Ural in stash, I started to alter the hood and roof, then realised the Grad launchre in Lybia all seemed to be the kit type not he 375 type

anyone having pics of a burned oout cabine of a Ural, or BM21 I need info how it looks when burned out

ok pics

some progress, had little time, and some serious cleaning the hobbyroom to do, added some "tubing, a copperwire wound around a steel wire, then bend into shape, added some "connectors" with stretched sprue, and made something looking like the fusebox to set the sequence with some punched out plastic card and foil, NOT 100 procent accurate, but it keeps the untrained eyes happy

Great stuff Tha Pit- some excellent detail on this. I've always like the BM-21 but I can never seem to find the old kit and I think it's about time someone released a new one. Anyway, I'm watching this. Good luck with it.

great clear pics Mauro!

made some "progress " today, hollowed out a tire , hoping to get it thin enough to get the "natural " flat look, guess I only managed a partial flat here

I'll get even more medival on the others

good luck the front ones are burned to sinders

build the major parts of the chassis and suspension, had the springblades on the front bend somewhat to simulate softening of the metal due to heating/burning

oh and I just saw , the "flat" wheel is on the wrong side
missed that one , easy fix
suspension is made fully workable so any other Flats kan variate a little, and the vehicle gets a natural "lowdown "^pose

pics!

Your defalted wheel is very convincing
How did you do it?
All the wheels seem to made in vinyl, the flat wheel seems made in plastic (or resin)
Did you do a copy of vinyl tires?

Great job so far

well Mauro, that was the plan, I made this one by drilling out the inside of the tyre, and apparently the tyre is made of 2 different rubber, inside harder type, outside flexible rubberfilm
but it is very thin and I pierced it on a side, and the rubber was still to strong to "flatten " by itself, so I filled it with carbody filler and pressed it together until it hardened, then i put some more putty on the outside and smooth this out, but the joint between the rubber and the filler kept breaking, so I gave it a good coat of thin superglue, to harden the rubber , sanded a bit, then light coat of primer to see the defaults, and finally after some more sanding, I decided to put some more putty on , this time 2part putty like magic sculpt sort a thing, still need some fine tuning, but after that I think i will make a cast, then clean it up some more untill I find it real enough, then make another mould
so I can use them on another ural I've build

never made a copy, got the silicone, and resin, but I guess this will be the first attempt at "making my own "
even if the "kit" tyres aren't accurate, I can alwways say I made'm myself

You did a great work in my opinion
About resin copies nevermind. about one month ago I had to do my first resin copy to fix some mess which I've done with a Tamiya Willys wheel (...it happens ) I thought it was difficult, instead it was rather easy. The only tip which I'd give you is to attach your wheel on a plastic rod before doing the mould.
At the end of the process you should have something like this:

I advise you this method for several reasons

1 When you create the silicone mold you'll have a larger zone where you can pour the resin
2 A larger zone on the base of the part, allows a better expulsion of air bubbles. You should squeeze gently the mold during the resin drying time to obtain a good result
3 That larger zone allows the complete reproduction of the part. Otherwise you risk not to cast a wheel slice (as happened to me at the first attempt...)

Considering it was very easy, I've decided to do a resin copy of a Tamiya Quad wheel (a need a spare one), and several copies of Maz 537 wheels, because I don't like at all the vinyl tyres; you can't paint them in a decent way and they could be ruined during the time

excellent tip, about the big gap to pour, and the squeezing during drying, thanks M

(do you adopt ? LOL )

some update pic, just to keep the hordes of watchers happy

quick setup for picture purpose
had the hood lenghtened some mm, and made it half the thickness of the kitpart, made some seat underneath things, euh sockel or whatever the seats are mounted on

I'll have to do some serious scraping the parts to get them to bend and twist some, like the real thing, I'm going for a mix of the last pics M send me and other ref pics, and my own imagination

Jesus this went fast, last time I checked you were doing wiring detail on the launcher, now you got the full monty

Love the tyre mod, they look good flat, or semi flat, those big wheels are a key feature of this beast, so I think time spent on the wheels is time well spent

You've been doing a great job!

Regarding the "sqeezing tip" I meant that you have to do it just one of three times, just to put away the air from the mould....I didn't mean that you have to hold the mould during ALL the resin drying time ...Although I've been studying hard English for three years now, sometime I can't explain the things in the clearest way ,,,Shame on me!

Anyway you can find some other very useful advice here

made little progress so far, had a lot on my mind..

made burned out seats, added some details in the cab (only for eyecandy, measurements are eyeballed

dremeled the cabroof and hood, to make them bend easier, to simulate heat distorsion

pics!
