Excellent work!

My build is creeping slowly down the road. I have some sub-assemblies ready, but nothing really to write home about.

Frame, fitted engine to frame, and a bit paint added.

Cheers,
Guido

Thanks for the encouragement, guys! I'm off to do the same over on the Marines Campaign now-- same Mercedes Wolf kit into an IFAV.
Also, I don't think I mentioned the tires of this kit are rediculous soft rubber that can't be worked with. As you can see, I made no attempts to weather or anything on those. The 5th tire-- the spare if it had one-- I tried to sand down the tread (the prototype tires are pretty worn down), but the soft nubs defied me. I didn't make any effort to find replacements though.
And, yes Guido, I'm with Phill waiting to see what's next on your build! Likewise, Phill's isn't coming along too shabby either!
Cheers!

Thanks for your kind comments, guys. Of cause I 'll send you more pics as I go along.
Sean - have you tried to freeze the tires before working on them? You should be able to get ice-spray at your drugstore. Freeze up the rubber to make it harder and thus offer more friction for abrasives. Go outside to do this!

Guido

Some small progress on my end. Slowly I grind to the finish line. I have to give kudos to those car guys that can get the gloss finish down and get their windscreens so clear. I think I will never build cars!!

Now to add some dirt

Sean / Hakan / Guido: Thanks for the kind words.

Since those photos, my 4 year old has closed the tailgate twice, each time after I affixed/re-affixed the little PE parts that keep it level. He also pulled off the mirrors and the spare tire and lost one of the regular wheels. Fortunately I've been able to recover all the parts each time. It is now safely out of his reach and has gotten a little beat up. Photos soon.

Looks great Phill

What scale is the .50 in the background of one of your pics? Is it a kit?

Sean mate ,, well its not a kit ..its a full metal 1/6th scale .50 ,,the ammo is all brass and the links are steel ,,the breach opens ,cocking handle works ,,well its spring loaded so when you pull it back it fires the arm forward .pretty cool ,,now to get a 1/6th tank to put it on

Aloha,

I took Sal's recommendation and added a couple bullet holes in the windscreen and another out the back window. Otherwise, she's scratched a bit and coated in some fine dust. As for the campaign I am going to call this one done, but will continue to work on the figure and a small base / display case. I promised my 4 yr old boy it was his "bad guy truck", so it needs to be in the case before he closes the tail gate again!!

The gun appears a lot more dusty in reality, but the camera didn't pick it up.

Nice work guys!
Zon- to me it seems the gun could use a bit of a pin wash and dry brush to better pick out the details. I love that bit with the windshield bullet holes!!! Are these decals? If yes what brand?
I hope to post a bit of progress on my GMC this weekend.
Cheers,
Guido

Hey everyone!

It's been a while since I posted here but I've been bogged down with shows and several reviews and the like. I've tried to pop in from time to time and see all the great builds happening. With the campaign deadline approaching and having got caught up with other things I turned my attention back to the Armoured Jeeps.

The first Jeep I did is complete with the armour attached and ready for some final touch-ups and weathering.

The second Jeep has the wheels on, a bit of detail painting and the armour bent to shape.

With luck I should have the rest of today and time tomorrow to take them further along.

Cheers,
Jan

Guido, you are right about the gun. It does have a "sand" wash which disappeared in the photos, but I agree it needs some dark.

The bullet holes are homemade with a drill bit and an X-acto knife. After getting the drill bit through, I pulled it in and out and twisted it a bit to rough up the edges. Then I "drew" the spider web pattern with the point of a sharp #11 blade. But first I searched google images for "bullet holes in windshields" to get an idea of what it looked like.

Looking forward to more work on your GMC.

Jan: I never realized how small your jeeps are. Awesome job.

Zon- Indeed the photos take away some of the paintwork details.

As promised here s a bit of progress I have made since my last posting. Same as on Zon's pics, some of the paintwork isn't quite visible.

Here's the finished 40mm Bofors...

... and my approach to the hairspray technique OD on wood.

Have a nice Sunday!

Cheers,
Guido

PS.: I'll need about another week to get it finished. Can we get an extentension, please?

Thanks, Zon! But the finished models aren' that small...just the parts that make them up!.

Speaking of parts, I got the last ones on the second Jeep (Bazooka version). Also got quite a few touch-ups done and started some detailing on the first (.50 cal one). As you and Guido have mentioned, the camera doesn't quite pick up things the way they are in person. BTW, love that gun Guido, if only it was made in a more acceptable scale.

I thought I have them both further along by now but I keep getting interrupted/distracted. Here's where they are now.

As you can see the Bazookas and the second Jeep in general needs more work. I'll keep plugging away at it but doubt that I'll get to any final weathering done today.

As for an extension , I wouldn't argue for another couple of days.

Cheers,
Jan
