Phill (WARDUKWNZ) and I have kicked this idea around enough, so let's discuss this possibility early enough to gain some interest.
I think 10 minimum will be a cinch, but I believe it shouldn't be exclusive to just armor. We need other armed forces 'vehicles' involved to help out with enlistment. Like aircraft, boats, soft skins. And it should allow RTR's to be a part as well. Like the WSN T34 and M16 as well as the Trumpeter T34's and their M16 kit.
Heng Long tanks, Tamiya tanks, Trumpeter tanks ... they might take some time so at least a year?
Radio Control or static to even scratch built items in WWII or any battle in recorded history, it could be a massive military movement ever seen here!

A lot of the big 1/16 scale military kits cost some big $$$$ But I just did a quick search of my favored web sight that I order from and they have some nice looking 1/24-1/25 kits for about the same price of a Dragon kit Also most commercial/civilian autos/truck kits come in that scale as well so people could do a conversion
I dont have anything in the stash in this size but if this was to start later in the year I guess I would have to get something like this
ITA6352 Italeri 1:24 - Armed Pick-Up. Based on Toyota Land Cruiser model kit

Ok we can start i am here. I am leaning towards a trump kit, maybe a tamiya. Year sounds good, it will probably take 6 months just get everything lined out.

Sure, leave the field as open as possible... makes sense as it would pull in some of the other guys that have non-armor laying around but never had a push to really start it.
I will have to take a look at the Stug IV I believe is out in the shed. If it isn't workable (depends on the damage moving, and I have done to it) I can always build another Tasca Panzer II.
Would really like to aim for sometime out about September, October or later for a start. Have 2 builds that will start in July and it is a busy month around here also.
So, count me in on this adventure....

One thing which will help i think is letting in partial builds ,conversions and scratch builds and top of the list ( for me ) paper tigers and prototypes , not thinking what if's tho but hell ya never know ..if enough people want to try a what if that big then we can think that one over .
Good thinking Jeff S mate about the aircraft, boats, soft skins and anything else along those lines .. opens that door even wider as long as its military themed it would be good

Oh yeah, partial builds are a must! Finish off that project you started BEFORE the new addition came into your life. Resin kits to modify that existing RTR or even the Forces of Valor or VS tanks that need a face-lift would be an interesting avenue.
I'd like to keep it all military but I wonder if we should entertain civilian vehicles too? I mean, us military themed guys will have a blast, but I don't want to leave out some important kits either. There are semi's, cars and trucks and even aircraft too.
Just a thought and I may be wrong too. That's why I think it's important to start this discussion early enough. I'm thinking definitely next year, as long as it's okay with Gary, for he's the Master!

Hi all,
I think it's a great idea, I've got a Tamiya 1/16 scale King Tiger project just waiting in the wings, but I haven't found the opportunity to make a start, so this could be it.......... However, with all the lovely campaigns I'm signed up for this year it would need to be a 2013 start, maybe even 2nd quarter. If it was I'd definately be in.

Oh, you will have time. I think (and I'm sure Phill will agree) maybe a little longer than a year will be needed as there are other kits and projects we will all be involved in at that time.
And hopefully we can get that starting time too!

Hi Jeff
I would love to be in on this campaign as I have a few projects on the go.
This is one I want to get going with very soon.
I would love to get a start on them now, so an early start with a long service period would be good. Waiting for a campaign start often gets me flummoxed as sure as eggs are eggs, I tend to lose momentum or even forget dates.
Lets get this show on the road and get 1/24 (and bigger) on the work benches.

Hmmmmm....1-24th to 1-16th does keep out the large scale Wingie-Thingies....1/32nd. Maybe reconsider? If not, I have a few 1/24th auto kits. Rather do the 1-32nd Stuka tho.
Something to consider.

Mike,
I don't know... 1/24th scale aircraft are available. Trumpeter has a bunch and somewhere around here I even have a 1/24th scale Stuka by Airfix. However, if Jeff and Phill are ok with 1/32nd so am I as I have my eye on doing a WNW Sopwith Pup or a W.29.....

Pretty awesome idea there Nige! Stay tuned and hopefully we will get enough to make this fly!
Mike, I believe in exceptions and if it's alright with Phill it's alright with me. I want this to fly so the more we say that are interested, the better the chances are of getting it off the ground! Like I told Nige, stay tuned and let's see how we do in recruiting. I have many ideas of my own so who knows what I will contribute to this build.
All I am concerned with is to do something a little different and most importantly, have fun.

Jeff,
I do have one concern about going down to 1/32nd in aircraft. Shouldn't we keep the same scale range for all the different kinds of models (tanks, vehicles, aircraft, etc.)?
I just worry that if we say aircraft can go down to 1/32nd that someone will get miffed when he is told that a 1/32nd scale tank isn't in.
Not trying to be a pain in the posterior.... just trying to keep from creating problems for ourselves. Well, for you and Phill as I am sure that when this becomes reality you will be the Campaign Leaders. Has anyone asked Gary what he thinks? He might be able to make some suggestions as to scale limits, etc that would make life easier.
However, if we do let 1/32nd scale aircraft in it will work for me also...

Hi Bob!
Hey, thanks for your input! That's what is needed in such an effort as this and with Phill and possibly Gary weighing in with their experience I'm sure we can come to some agreement. I just want it to fly, so if enough want to do 1/32nd aircraft ...
I just think 1/32nd is too close to 1/35th armor, so it should only be allowed in the "Wingie-Thingies" as it is called. This is going to be more about the Large Scale Armor so I don't believe allowing a few exceptions is going to kill the joy. At least that's the way I see it.
I just want to see it happen and everyone to have fun. So, in my eyes it's like mixing classes of racing together on the same track. You run your race and they run theirs and we'll all be merry!

Now you guys are talking!! 1/24-1/25 I'm in!!
It's about time someone starting giving the big ones their due credit.
The only problem I'm going to have is chosing the one I'm going to build. I even have a couple 1/30th kits I could build.

This is great and pending any specifics on rules and allowances, this thing should get off the ground. I would respectfully like to see this start at the beginning of 2013 and have a duration of a year or 18 months.
So we need only one more member to show interest and commitment to turn this in for approval.

A 1-24th Wingie-Thingie is way to big for me to even attempt to display...and for 'birds,' I'm only into WWII. I realize that 1-32nd and 1-35th are close, but it's 'standardized' Air vs. Armor. If there's too much grief for a 1-32nd bird, then that's okay. I'll sit this one out and watch the builds.
My thoughts: traditional LARGE scale Armor is 1-25th and 1-16th (and throw in 1-6th) whereas tradtional LARGE scale Aircraft is 1-32nd. 1-24th Autos are the norm...and don't forget the 1-24th vs. 1-25th!
Need a reason for the Stuka.

As I am sitting here enjoying my first coffee and smoke of the day i notice that this thread has gotten real busy and its all because of 1/32nd aircraft .
There seems to me to be one pretty simple way to fix this problem ,, NO!!!
Kidding ya all .. the best idea i can think of right now ,,first coffee remember ,, is that we make a category's.
Category 1 ,,1/32nd scale aircraft only
Category 2 ,,1/24,25 and up military vehicles .
No 32nd tanks at all,,the smallest scale military vehicles are 1/24th scale .
Thinking that idea because it keeps the doors open to the 1/32nd aircraft lads and most importantly smiles on everyones faces .
Hows that grab you guys ??
Phill

Well, no one is sitting out, no one is walking away. This is just for fun and I want to see the 1/32nd aircraft so there's no problem.
Heck, if that "category" is small in numbers, I'll build one just to help fill it in! I can build anything, it's just that I like tanks better!
I would even entertain the 1/6 scale if need be and I'm sure so would Phill.
So one more and we pretty much have the rules laid out right here and we'll submit it. It will be the most laid back set of rules this place has ever seen and hopefully set a trend to make Campaigns about fun and nothing more.

1/32 is considered large for aircraft. And of course then there are the ship guys where 1/350 is large.
One problem is with the campaign page. There is only one set of scale restrictions. We could just use "Any Scale" and hope they read the rules.

18 months works for me since I like to scratch build alot of detail in my 25th scale tanks and usually get carried away.

So, it should read like this:
Large Scale Armor Build Campaign 1:24 to 1:16
SCALE: 1:24 To 1:16
The Rules and Regs
1) Aircraft projects entered can be from 1:32 to 1:16
2) Armor projects MUST be from 1:24 to 1:16
3) Can be started OR from an initial conversion kit OR can be scratch built.
4) You must show a picture of the box of that model OR a before picture of the project you are building. Included with this you are required to also display a picture of any after market items being used in your build.
5) An image of your final build must be uploaded into the Large Scale Armor Campaign photo gallery.
6) Remember ... the overriding rule governing THIS campaign is to have fun!
I placed the aircraft first so it can be easily recognized.
