Thanks Wolf.

I gotta say, I am pretty sure I would not be thrilled to be riding a tank with a 'hole' over my head like that! Well at least a tank that was rolling into a battle. Otherwise, I think I would be pretty 'giddy' to get to ride in one of these.

BTW, the side skirts had a 'couple' of pin marks to fill...

Nice little scratch detail on the turret John, I`m pretty sure they would have some sort of cover on that flare port...But I`m no expert at all You`ll have to squint at pics for a while to get this Q answered.

I finished the chippin on the green sone, only the nato black left to do. Man! this takes forever Anyhoooo, here is some pics.

Awesome on the chipping of the paint. Like I said every time I do it it just doesn't look right. Oh, on the early T-54/55, those ports on the hatches were closed from the inside. On later models and on the T-62 they put a flap on it on the outside. You can see it on the T-62's in this campaign (including mine). Have fun folks!!!!

That explains a lot. In my google image search, I was seeing both with what looked like open ports and covered!

So I can place a piece of plastic on the inside to close it, but have it 'indented' from the outside and that should look okay.

Ok folks, here's the latest on my T-62. Clear coat and decals. Hopefully I will get a dark wash in and maybe some weathering this weekend. Enjoy the pics

BTW, the intell comes from patrolling the border between east and west for 2 years. We got briefings all the time on the latest and any changes to the forces we were up against.

Boy you folks are churning out the tanks. I have got to catch up, maybe I should quit my job so I have more time to build, but then no money for paint or kits or beer. Guess I have to keep working.

The quality of work is awesome and inspiring, I will have to work hard to keep up.

MSCorley what unit were you with on the border? I was in the Atrp 1/11th ACR out of Fulda, spent a lot of time at OP Alpha.

MS
Nice job with the clear and decals Always good to have someone with insider infos. I never got deployed when I was in the military. But again, I was a weapon tech and the only place we were involved at the time was bosnia.

Anyhooo! enough with the good old times.

Thomas
Thanks mate, don`t quit your day job! No kit and no beer makes modellers go crazy You have a update comming soon?

MS, Thomas and Phil,

Thanks for continuing to post. Helps keep me going, especially when you find things like this...

I was test fitting one of the wheels with the hub and OMG. Can you see that gap around the hub??? And after all that time cleaning up those awful wheels! UGH.

So, I was trying to keep this a simple (read cheap) build, but that is going out the window!

I had also asked about the tank plumbing and got a couple great replys. Well, I think MS talked about the Mig set. Well I was digging (yes, literally) thru my hidden part of stash and found a small box. In it was 3 sets of the t-55 plumbing and a set of road wheels! Woo-hoo!

So I guess I might be using these (if they fit)

That is what I call good treasure hunting John!

I hope they fit, it would be a great upgrade to the kit`s wheels.

Here is where I am, First pic is flat coat(finished the chipping ) And the others are with two umber filters.

Phil,

Beautiful work!

A small update. Working on the fuel lines and the wheels. They did not 'quite' fit, but a little work with a drill bit and that is all okay. BUT... I have 11 hubs and 9 rear wheels... Looking online for another set.

Here they are side-by-side. Huge difference, I think.

I salute a fellow border Cav trooper. I was there 77 to 79, Sheridans and M60A1s, got a special detail for in city combat training with the Berlin Brigade 1/11th sent a combined troop, lots of fun and Shulthis beer. I left active duty for the NG and retired in 2003. SF another and a well done.

Still battling a sinus infection so I have not done much more on the Chieftain. I did get the wheels together and sanded the seam off them. Hopefully I will tackle the touch up work on the camo scheme this week. Great work everybody!

@ John K: I didn´t even bother gluing my road wheels together on my T55 they went straight to bin and a set of Tam.T62 came to rescue.

@Ian: Take it easy dude, those cold / flu bugs can be a real problem if you don´t cure em completely.

@ Lone Wolf: the T62 is looking real cool now

@Phil: perfect

Here´s my progress:
Sponsons covered in, Gearbox deck fixed in place, new exhausts, new drivers hatch, new gun and mount of.

More on Tuesday.
