I guess I'll be the odd one here-- a few years ago I used to listen to classical to relax me-- but then my wife took me kicking and screaming to an Opera, since then I've been hooked on some of the classics, the Met Opera live on Saturdays is what I like to listen to most, the Barber of Seville is the best. My local classical radio carries them. I used to think of it as "cat strangling", but now I enjoy some of it-- and my wife laughs at me working at the bench with an Opera on!

Russ, you aren't alone with classical. It calms me down. When I need inspiration I find something inspiring.
Kurt, that is an interesting choice. Can be interesting and I can see it helping to focus.

It never repeats and they call out the time. It also is re-assuring that there are very few serious crimes but several lost/found dog and cat calls every day.

Russ,
Well classical is one thing, Opera is really another. I sometimes get bored and even irritated with the harpsichord themed chamber music that afternoon classical radio stations like to play-- but I never get bored with good Opera (I said good Opera-- a few still do sound like "strangling cats" to me!). Some are quite lively, and if I listen carefully, I can even make out a few words! Our local classical programming channel here also has an hour of movie theme music between 4-5 PM Saturday's and Sunday's-- that's when I like to work -- in fact, I'm going out to the workbench in a few minutes. When I get bored with that-- it's classic rock from the 60s and 70s-- guess I'm showing my age now! But wait! What about all those kids out there who discovered the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack weren't new songs after all?

i've always listen to music while building, and moreover : while painting.
generally my choices are Gregorian Choirs, Templars choirs or Vikings (nordic choirs) like Wardrunna ...
if working on nazi stuff : Wagner.
Youtube is a great provider of great playists,

I saw "milking the goat machine" play before Eisregen last year. That grind core is too heavy for me^^, metal core (HSB or PWD) is the heaviest i'll go for.
Now it's time for Verdis Requiem, my fav piece of classicsl music. Any Verdi listeners or there?

For me it has to be anything calm and relaxing. I usually listen to classical (Mozart, Bach, Handel and Chopin are my favourites), opera or ambient/chill out through the myriad of Internet Radio stations available.
I have a superb audio system and it helps greatly with the listening experience. I tried putting the headphones on, but I find that distracts me from the task at hand.

I listen to a mix of Christian and secular melodic screamo from bands like Memphis May Fire, For Today, August Burns Red, and Oh Sleeper among others. Pandora is my source. It's the only way I can find new music. I also listen to softer stuff but the screamo is the best for me.
Regards,
Eric

Yanni voices, Yanni live at the Acropolis, Pink Floyd, ABBA, Bee Gees, Neil Diamond, Queen, Rod Stewart, Roger Whittaker, hits of the 60's and 70's, Celine Dion and Cher.
I have a Sony bookshelf CD, tape player and a reel to reel tape player in my modeling shed as well as a tv, but that can be a distraction so I only use it to watch the noon day news.

Wow! We're a diverse group of listeners, that's for sure.
I pretty much only listen to RUSH these days. I saw them mentioned once or twice.
Usually, I put a DVD in. Most times it's M*A*S*H or one of the sitcoms from the 70s.

Classic rock...50s, 60s, 70s, some 80s. After that, music sux! Throw in little classical and C&W (Home Free, Montgomery-Gentry) now and then as well. And...every one in awhile, I'll throw up YouTube and watch war footage (from all eras)...which is good PTSD therapy some say. I'll take them at their word...it works for me.
