Just thought I'd get other peoples opinion on the subject. Whats your favourite band/genre of music to listen to whilst modelling.
I love Hollywood Undead and Linkin Park.
How 'bout you?
Thanks

Although I like metal very much I switch to progressive rock when modelling for safety reasons Most of the time bands such as Dream Theater or Porcupine Tree

I am a heavy sports fan ... so no races, games or Olympic Events can be on the tube if any serious modeling is to be done. Being once a weekend warrior myself I cannot miss a play or a pass for position.
I can put a WWII movie on or the Military Channel for some inspiration but no sports!!!!! They have their own time slot!
My range in music differs. If it has melody and heavy riffs it's on! The list is long and distinguished.

Wait 'till you have to decide on whether to carefully place that tiny piece of PE with that dot of CA or watch a play on TV
and you'll understand why.

During hockey season, yes it is a religion in canada, I watch hockey, and if hockey not on or summer I listen to Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Pink Floyd, Marillion, maybe some OLD Black Sabbath or Ronnie James Dio, it is all about the mood.

I listen to audio books when I build stuff. Usually WWII books but have gone through a couple spurts of scifi and lately zombies. If I try to read I fall right asleep so I kill two birds with one stone.

Hi All,
My tastes these days have wandered into House, but I'll listen to just about anything except rap, heavy metal and classical while building. Just sort of where my fancy takes me. Kinda like what I build...
Regards,
Georg

I too have a fear of poking my eyes out with a xacto or soldering iron or worse... The dremel. I don't know how many times I realized that I just scratched my head with the back of a sharp tool. So keep it mellow. Safety first!

I listen on the computer. I have a Pandora account and have created my own "Juke Box". Mostly old Hippie Sh** as my friends call it. Allman Bros, The Grateful Dead, Ten Years After, Deep Purple, old time Country Music. Newer stuff like The Reverend Horton Heat, Southern Culture on the Skids, Wilco. Even some old Black Gospel music. You can't beat a well played Hammond B3. Another is the Internet Archive. 100's of bands bootleg concerts. It's a good way to check out bands that are coming to your town to see if you like them or not before you lay your money down. Check it out !
Another is WMSE.org (shameless plug) a station I volunteer for check them out! You can find an archived show of any genre of music that has been listed by the people who have posted their favorites so far. And almost ZERO commercials !
Kevin, last week they did 3 solid hours of Dio !

As I said, I listen to Linkin Park. They are classed as Alternative rock, rap rock, alternative metal and nu metal. I also listen to Hollywood Undead (I am begining to like them more than LP because LP are becoming to mainstream) who are classed as Alternative rock, rap rock, rapcore, hip hop. I find this type of music great to model to as it keeps me in a good energetic mood. But its just a matter of opinion.
The audio-book is another interesting idea which I may investigate further.
Thanks for your replies guys! (rhyme LOL)

I either have sports on the TV or music. When its music my first choice is film scores. I love the powerful movements in modern film scores, they can really move you. If its not soundtracks then its hair band rock, go '80s! (Poison, Bon Jovi, Cinderella, etc, etc...)

All this Black Sabbath and Slayer are before my time!!
Well, what's stopping you from checking out the classics? I listen to a lot of bands that are either way, way older than me, already defunct, or both.
I can only wholeheartedly recommend checking out both Black Sabbath and Slayer. For Sabbath, I'd say the best to start with is the first six Ozzy albums plus the three with Dio (well four, Heaven And Hell was the Dio Sabbath with a different name). For Slayer, their 80's stuff plus Seasons In The Abyss is a great solid streak of albums to start listening. Their two most recent ones are quite good too.
When modeling, I listen to a whole bunch of different kinds of stuff (like always, I don't have specific modeling music), though hard rock and metal form the most of my music library. I like pretty much all kinds stuff: old jazz, movie and game soundtracks, progressive and classic rock, and metal (the regular heavy kind, death, thrash, doom, stoner, progressive and technical, etc).
Funny thing, I've never noticed my concentration altered by the music I'm listening to while modeling. Doesn't matter if it's Vangelis or early Carcass albums in my ears when I'm handling some PE or painting some little details.
But I don't really like to think of music based on genres. If it's good, it's good.
I kind of wouldn't like to go listing stuff, since I know I'll have a terribly hard time keeping it compact enough, but as it seems to be popular in this thread, I'll try. In no particular order:
Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson, Metallica, Megadeth, Iced Earth, Death, Nile, Atheist, Strapping Young Lad, Devin Townsend (that guy's a genius!), John Williams, Jesper Kyd, Jimi Hendrix, Dio, Deathchain, Fatboy Slim, Kyuss, Reverend Bizarre, Mastodon, Michael Jackson, Nick Cave, Bob Marley, Rage Against The Machine, Rush, Testament, Exodus, Tool, Vangelis, Vektor (one of the best new thrash metal bands I've heard, insane stuff!), The White Stripes, Slayer, Voivod, Wolfmother, etc etc...
