Well at least one early M4A1 made it as far as Nuremburg, There's a photo of it knocked out at the huge nazi stadium so it must have seen snow on the way

There are also a photo of one during the battle of the Bulge in one of Steve Zaloga's Sherman at War books- I can't remember if it's camouflaged though

A few start pics for my Sherman CDL.

Now all I need is my turret from Inside the armour and I can get on with it.

Well I guess I recalled incorrectly. Looked it up and it was just that the picture was reversed!

I was thinking you weren't right because I have seen two different views of the same tank.

Here's one of them

Hi all, I have a quick question about M4A1 late hulls and I wondered if anybody could help ?

I know that some of the early ones had riveted lower hulls and a lot of the later ones were welded. I intend to add some welds to the lower hull base joint as that will be seen so I figure just putting a weld around 2-3mm from the bottom of the hull. Does that sound about right? I can't quite see it in the pics I have.

Rivets, on an A1? If you can reference me as to what you are talking about I can help.

But I want to see what area we are speaking of first.

Just a quick update on the M4 Composite Hull PTO build. I finished the upper and lower hull sub assemblies, and glued them up, as well as gluing on the bogies and wheels. Then I applied a basic coat of my Tamiya OD mix.

Here's a close up of the front fenders. I opted to use the plastic kit parts rather then the PE ones. I thinned down the mounting bracket to a more scale appearance. I completely forgot to add the vertical PE brace, so I still need to do that.

I guess if you are doing a very early A1 then those rivets must be there. I've just never seen too many hulls in that area.

These must be a "carry over" from the M3 Lee hull as things were not always a complete new feature with the M3/M4 line.

Man... that is truly some rivet counting!

I'm building DML's M4 Composite Sherman, and I've run into a real issue; the turret. The kit comes with both a high bustle and a late model low bustle with loaders hatch and gun port. I want to do a low bustle version, so I did google search after google search.

The information seems to be all over the place from the low bustle turret with a loaders hatch and gun port being the most common, to the most common being a low bustle turret without a loaders hatch nor gun port.

At this point I'm pretty much convinced that the correct low bustle version is without the loaders hatch and gun port. Am I on the right track or should I include both hatches?

I figured I add some of my work in progress of my M4A3E8. I've completed the major portions in the assemble. I'v hand painted the white outlined buffalo on the side of the hull, will post photos in a day or two. Still need to attach the various tools on the model, add the bumper numbers, stars, and the support braces for the side fenders(?).

Thanks Joel. I finished applying the decals earlier tonight. First time I used Archer Fine Transfer decals as well as the first time using dry transfer. I actually like them, they went on fairly easy. My only grip was I was trying to create the bumper code and the USA registration numbers by individually cut numbers. Talk about a pain.

It was almost as much of a pain as assembling all the individual track shoes for the tank.

Hey Sal... is that the Italeri kit? Is that a step on the barrel near the mantlet I see? If so (and my eyes are not fooling me) it needs to be sanded down.

Otherwise the M4A3 is looking good!

I just made some room on the workbench so it's time for me to engage!

Jeff it is the Academy Kit and the box say M4A2 but it comes with marking of this tank

So yes you are correct I will have to get rid of that step in the barrel
Does anyone know if the pictured tank is an A2 or A3 I do believe that it is the 76mm main gun

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty confident that's a M4A2. If it's Soviet and a Sherman it's most likely a diesel.

Cheers

Edward,
last time I used dry transfers was like 40 years ago. While I liked how easily they were to apply, and there was no clear decal film to be concerned with, getting them to lay down over rivets or into seams was a lot of work. Many times it never really turned out as well as with regular decals. Glad to hear that they worked well for you.
