Jeremy, energy weapon with self-powered auxiliary power unit. I'm thinking it would be for air-defense primarily, but could be pressed into long-range line of sight ground attack roles as well. If I wasn't overbooked for campaigns for the first half of the year I might try to push it through.

I just noticed this one runs an entire year. I thought it was a six month campaign. That opens up things a bit. By the way, I'm working on Carla's stable mate...Kimmie. Kimmie is an Alan Panzer II/c mounting the 7.5cm light gun on top. It should be a simple little project to serve as a diversion while working on things.

Jeremy, The crate shape is just a facade. It's basically two crude crate shapes supported by a framework of scrap styrene. The original tarp was made using white tissue paper and watered down white glue. The white paper is where I made my mistake. I really couldn't see the surface texture until it had been painted. I only saw how thin it looked after the tarp had dried and then been painted.

To fix it, I added layers of tissue along the sides of the crates and up onto the crates' edges. It softened the edges and made the tarp look thicker. I also used a glossy dark green this time around.

I'm calling her 99% done. I've still got to go and touch up a few details. I'll add the final wash and nail the tracks once I decide on what kind of groundwork it'll sit on.

Awesome thanks! I don't know that I'd be able to pull off that fix. Have you considered whether you want it to be in travel or in it's firing location?

Jeremy, Don't sell yourself short. It was actually pretty easy of a fix. The problem was that it looked real thin so the solution was to make it thicker. I'm not sure how I'll display it. It won't lower without swapping out the stowed position worm screw. I might have it slightly traversed like it's setting up to fire. Even using the kit's mounts, the launcher basically just sits atop the thing. I have it tacked on with white glue. I'll wait until I start setting up whatever I decide on a base.

Is an E-100 what-if enough, or do I need to "pimp it" ?

Alex: I'm just saying I don't have enough experience, but we won't know what I'm capable until I try as you've pointed out. I'm curious to see what you do for the base. I really like the way that the launcher looks locked in it's elevated combat position, but I think it would look pretty sleek with the lowered worm screw assembly.

Rob: I do fully encourage scratch-building and mods, but an E-100 is just fine the way she came. Go for it

Jeremy, I use the tissue and white glue thing a lot. It works great for tarps. I also use it for figure conversions. I'll be using tissue alot for my figures for the EOD2 campaign. It takes some "feel" to get use to it but it's pretty cheap to practice with.

Alex: Honestly I've always been hesitant about using tissue due to it's delicate nature, which is part of why I haven't had much practice with it. How well does it hold up with the white glue mixture?

Jeremy, Tissue is delicate and can be a pain to work with. I usually fold a piece of the tissue paper over to get added thickness. I usually apply the glue with a finger tip. It does get messy.

There can be a lot of trial and error. Tissue is pretty cheap. It's generally free around the holidays thanks to it being used as gift packing. I usually replenish my stocks of tissue during Christmas.

You can also use coffee filters. It's stronger stuff. I've never used them alone, but I have used them as a foundation to layer tissue on. I probably should have used filters for Carla's trailer tarp. I would think they'd work well for rolled up tarps as well.

As far as holding up...I assume you mean over time...it does pretty good. It is white glue but after you paint and clear coat it it seems okay. I've got tarps and rolled bedrolls I made back in the 90s that are still good. My best example though is I tarped the entire upper hull of a an old Dragon StuG III/G (late) back in the late 90s. About a year ago, I got a brilliant idea that required removing it. I placed the entire model in water and let it sit overnight. The next day, the tarp had softened up and peeled off with little trouble.

I just ordered my base kit. I've settled on Trumpeter's M1A1 Abrams Panther II mine clearing tank as a base for something. It's cheap which makes me assume not too accurate. The mine plow and a 45 mph top speed on treads make for interesting ideas though. I did a UPS truck for the last What If campaign, but now I'm thinking along the lines of a red London double decker bus or a yellow school bus.

Alex: A rough 20 years isn't bad. Once I have a a good reason to make a tarp I'll try experimenting with the tissue and white glue construction.

Paul: The barrels are working out nicely. Will there be enough structural support for them?

Sean: Whatever you do it'll be interesting for sure! And you are right about the Trumpy kit.

I have a Steampunk KV-II that I have pretty much assembled, but I don't have any wip pictures of that. It will probably be a steampunk T-34, then, as I have two 1/72 scale dragon kits that I bought as bodyguards for the command KV (alternate history means I can go a little bit off the rails, I think). This should be fun!
