Hi Tom,
In all my years in the hobby, I have never ventured into building an auto kit, be it civilian or military. This campaign got me interested to finally try one, though I didn't immediately sign up till I have a kit on hand. Spent some time looking around the LHS today, and this is what I am putting up as my entry:
I've narrowed down the choice between this and the MiniArt Staff Car 170V Cabriolet. I finally decided on the former to keep things simple and manageable for this first car build. Who knows, I may get the hang of it, and do some more. I guess one has to start somewhere. Anyways, I hope this is an acceptable kit -- do let me know if otherwise.
Cheers,
Tat

Irvin, that 11CV is nice - I built one last year.
Tat - the Stabswagen is fine - I'm going to build one myself! (But the 170V is interesting too - let's hope you get round to both.)
Here's my "start-up" pic:

hey Tat, I spent 6 weeks in the PI visiting relatives, the whole time I was there I could not find a single hobby shop (I was in the province) the only one I found was in Makati, was out of money by then. Can you tell me which one you went to?? The name of the store and city please?? I was also trying to get a tour of the Tamiya factory in QC, but ran out of time...

Thanks Tom! I feel a bit of pressure given that I'm doing the same kit as the campaign leader... sure hope I could do justice to this one.
Yes, the 170V cabriolet is nice, I like the camo it has. Daunting at this point, given the level of detail that needs to be built in. Lets see how it goes.
Hey Roland, nice to hear from a kababayan! Am not too sure about about shops in the provinces, but what I've heard of is a hobbyist who takes orders out in the Iloilo area. The Tamiya factory I know from years back is in the Cebu Export Processing Zone though I never did get a chance to get inside their facility.
There are 3 shops in Metro Manila that I know of:
1) Lil's Hobby Center -- with branches in SM Megamall (Mandaluyong), Glorietta (Makati). I got the Bronco kit from their warehouse in the Kapitolyo warehouse (Pasig). I'm guessing you may have been to their Park Square shop since you mentioned Makati -- but since the new year they moved to the Gloritetta site.
2) Special Toy Center -- they have shops in Binondo / Sta Cruz (Manila), and Virra Mall Greenhills (Ortigas). Not too sure if their Ali Mall and SM City (both in QC), or Filinvest (Alabang) are still open as I have not been there in the last couple of years.
3) JMN Hobby has a shop at Harrison Plaza (Manila). They do stock but most of their business is done on order basis as they import it from a UK distributor.
Hope it helps. Check them out the next time you're in town.
Cheers,
Tat

Hi Tat,
Don't worry about pressure - I run a happy ship! I plan to do mine as a US car after the war's end, possibly with a smartly-dressed soldier from MB. (I recall they do a set with two guys and two women, celebrating VE day or something?) So, a camo'd German version is all yours!

Thanks Tom, you've guessed it right -- I've had my sights on a camo version. I'll be starting the build in a couple of days time and post pics.
I think I've seen that MB kit -- IIRC, its the one with the 82nd Airborne guy holding a bottle of vino. Good choice on MB -- I happen to like the figure subjects they come up with, quite unique and very far from the typical 10000 yard stares or pointing at something... Good luck on your build and the campaign itself!
Cheers,
Tat

HI all
Here is my take on the Kübelwagen from Italaleri.
There's some concerns abought the model. ´The original floor is made of wood and the chairs is different than Italeri presents.
Here you have some pics of were I'm heading first the floor.
I'll like to have a more realistik look, what do you think? I s the scale OK?
And then the chairs:

Hi Lennart,
I like the wooden floor! The chairs are nice too, but I think the cushions are a bit generous - the real things were as thin as they could get away with. And if you want to get more detail, there are side braces you could add. Here's a pic of the Hasegawa kit (1:24 scale) for reference.
The big kit is surprisingly well detailed, so I expect their chairs are accurate. Are you planning to add figures?
By the way, made a start on my Stabswagen - five wheels made of eight parts each! They look good, but took an hour to clean and assemble...

Thanks for the feedback Tom. I like the floor as well Seeing the Hasegawa kit I realize that the cushions are on thick side, I'll redo them and add the braces. I might even make a new chair considering that the back of the chair and the legs are made of one piece of pipe. I'm having some issues on how to fasten the chair to the chassis and remodeling the chair will solve that.

Haven't made up my mind a bought that yet, the ones that comes with the kit aren’t the best quality, but I'm thinking of using the radio operator as a driver and placing the officer in the passenger seat. It will require some remodeling and I want to use the original parts as much as possible, but that’s part of the challenge.
Looking forward to se your Stabswagen, Tom

Nice work on that Jeepskie, Sal! What I'd love to know is how it relates to Tamiya's 1:48 version - did they do a new design, or just pantograph it down?...
Tom
Thanks Tom, being that the box says 70's Masterpiece I would say they just scaled down this kit but I dont know for sure GregCloseCombat is the 48 scale expert maybe he knows
Well i made some progress base coat on
I didnt like the position of the officers arm so I changed it
and this is what it was looking like last night
I did some more work on the figures and added some weathering this morning but my daughter to the camera to DC for the Presidential Inauguration so no new pictures for a while

Sal, you're in danger of finishing before anyone else starts!
Tat, when you start your Stabswagen, watch out for the suspension! I did mine today (no pics yet...) and it is extremely fiddly. I'd suggest doing the rear end first, and do the two springs before putting in the axle & drive shaft. If you let the springs harden then it is easier to hold the axle against them for a good joint without it all falling apart - ask me how I found out! And the front end is a nightmare of microsurgery - I decided not to try to melt the pin ends and just glued the bits together at a slight angle from "straight". I did build up the whole steering linkage as a lump, and only added it to the floor at the end. (Otherwise getting access to the parts would be tough.) Hope this helps! I'll post pics either tonight or tomorrow...

Hi Roland, thanks for a peek at the Packard! They made some "interesting" design choies with this one - a big seam down the middle of the roof? Both doors moulded as one? Not exactly how I'd have designed it...
Those wheels do look odd - I built similar ones for my Stabswagen and really had to pay attention to the sequence of slices to get a good fit. The tread on yours definitely wants a little "packing" with filler, but I think you could fill & wipe with a finger to get just a slight groove left, rather than carving whole new grooves.
I must post some shots of mine (once I take some) - there are a few real howlers in the Bronco design...

Yes Tom, I will go that route (fill and wipe) the roof was a challenge all right, even when you glue it in place there is a dip in the plastic. I put a thick coat of Tamiya primer filler and gunze surfacer. It feels good to the touch but I'll have to see what happens when I put a coat of gloss black down, gloss black is unforgiving and will highlight any remaining seams, dips, etc... those multi piece tyres are a real mystery, the Mini Art field kitchen tires are the same way, even worse it seems...

Yeah Sal, I was hoping for a bigger pic too...you have old eyes and I've got a computer literacy problem cause I don't know how to do that. When I uploaded the pic, I thought it would do it automatically cause there wasn't an option for pic size. Can someone explain how to upload a bigger pic in the thread?? This is only my second campaign, and also the first time I've attempted to include pics... sorry guys

Hi Roland,
If you go to your gallery and look at an image, you will see below it a box called "Linked Thumbnail". To the right of this is a little yellow-edged square that says "more" if you hover the mouse over it - click it and a new line appears below, headed "HTML code". Copy this code (begins with "< img scr=") into your forum post, and it should give a big picture!
