Thank you Bison! It's a fantastic supplement. I just printed it out.The numbers seem to be matching up almost perfectly. I'm going look into buying a metrics ruler. I am personally tired of imperial. I plan on constructing a sort of semi-core for the in-lay on the bustle.
Sauceman Thanks for telling the primer colour. I may use a red or black primer sprayed from the airbrush.
Anthony I was so afriad that I would have to travel to Edmonton, a place I've never been before, just to arrive and discover I forgot my tape measure at home!
More WIP photos to come soon.

Even more WIP pics! Now I want everyone realise that this is the paper version and not the plastic final. It turns out that paper isn't a paticularly good modelling materiel. It bows, warps, and droops. However, it does give a good rough idea of what has to be done. I will add the grab handles, anti-skid, and bolt heads in the plastic version.
The first photo is of the in-scale paper drawing with meaurements provided graciously provided from Oliver and the sauceman.
The next pics are of the long bustle. The bustle actually seems to nicely 'balance' the Leopard 1's turret.

As much as Edmonton has its faults I am certain their stores sell measuring tapes...in metric and imperial.
Good start on the turret bins.
I am not sure how much you are looking at accuracy but the Commander's periscopes are the incorrect number in the kit.

That will work just fine....and far more accurate in Canada with the higher alchohol percentage in our beer.
What's wrong with the old Mk.1 eyeball measurement?

Hello Aaron,
just subcribed! Whish you good luck!
I will try to build it later in braillescale. So i hope you realize your plan on keeping 'paper-negatives' to save, so that i can use them for my build.
You are right, it's a pity that MLM isn't back with his conversion set's. That holds me up to build it in 1:35.
My great respect to our canadian modellers for supporting your plan. That's really great. I like it.
I'll stay tuned...
regards Marcus

Thanks Marcus. I will have to alter the paper negatives tommorow as the thickness of the platic required me to revise several shapes in size. However, the tri-angular shapes are still correct.
Another set of WIP pics. I may need to extend and sand the rounded turret gap shroud a bit more to give it a smoother and more contuered appearence. I test fitted the lightweight turret applique armour, and its extenions fitted the bustle bins like a glove.
On a side note, I like the 'Redneck Measuring Tape'! LOL

Aaron, looks good. Is this plastic or your paper draft? Which thickness of the plastic you will use?

That's actually the plastic draft. It looks much like the paper version in shape and size. As for the bustle box's construction; for the bins and raised portions I used sheet plastic with a thickness of around half a millimeter or .020 of an inch. The gunner's primary sight shroud did require almost paper thin platic.
I have actually given some thought into the construction of the MEXAS modules, and I will have to draw out rough plans for possibly more measurements.
On a side note, does anyone know of the proposed upgrades to the C2? I recall reading about them in a fairly lengthy document that supposedly stated tank crews wanted an upgraded C2 rather then a Leopard 2.
Jason, I know that the kit is missing the large raised periscope just behind the GPS. Are there any other periscopes missing?

Aaron, nice to hear that you are thinking about the construction of the MEXAS. Maybe souceman can help out if he has the modules from MLM. I think it will be a great help to see all sites from MLM-MEXAS. In the next step it will be interessting to get measures of MLM-MEXAS.
So i hope souceman will read this and can help out with some pic's of the MLM-MEXAS like the ones from turret-bin.
regards Marcus

I'm still thinking of how I would set the measurements for the MEXAS modules up. I don't want to get ahead of myself becuase I'm still working on the bustle box. Recording all the measurements and setting them up into a master copy is a fairly encombering process. I'll be sure to upload more photos soon.

There are no upgrades for the C2...it will be eventually be replaced by the three Leo 2 versions currently in service.
Beyond the raised periscope beside the Commander's TRP-2 sight (not a GPS) there is actually one periscope missing from the multiple periscopes around the Commander's hatch...you don't notice it unless you count them and it woudl mean removing all of them, adding the missing one, and then realigning the Commander's hatch ring and supports.

Jason I wanted to know the modifications the soldeirs operating the C2 wanted. They did ask for changes. Perhaps Anthony knows. You can find what I was asking about on page 22 under "The Next Round..."

These WIP photos show the 'plating' fitted to the core of the box.

OK, I understand what you were reading now. What you are refering to were recommendations made by the very first tour of the Leopard C2s in Afghanistan. These recommendations were made in 2006 while the first tour was taking place.
These were the recomendations made to modify the Leopard C2...
1. A bullet trap modification...there were some areas identified that could make the tanks vulnerable.
2. Air conditioning...this was not installed and only the chiller unit with cooling vests and the thermal covers were installed.
3. AFV Helmets and NOMEX coveralls.
4. Dual turret mounted C6 GPMGs with spade grips and a gun shield.
5. 105 mm Canister rounds.
6. Fuel Cells
7. Tactical Nav System
8. IR Spotlight
9. Remote Weapon Station
10. Electric Drive Turret
11. Additional spare parts
Again....these were recomendations based on the initial combat operations...any modifications happened during subsequent tours and nothing further was implemented.

Thanks LeoCommander! That's just what I wanted to know.
I've gotten a general idea of how I'm going to set up the measurements to the MEXAS modules. I'll actually be starting with the turret because I don't have to chop any thing off there, and the turret armour itself seems to be more elaborate then the hull armour in construction. I'll lay out the turret armour measurements as if they were rectangular prisms lining up the top box measurements with the lower box.

Looks close. Here's some pics that show how the bin is attached on the real deal. The curved surface of the turret makes things much harder to attach! Wait until you try to get the MEXAS armour modules lined up!
Here's a side view showing position:

Jim, I saw verticle retainer plates just like those on the MLM kit, and I thought,at first, they were just a by-product of the casting until I realised that they actually help to cover up the bustle-turret gap! It's almost a stange coincidence becuase I sanded down the interior sides of the verticle retainer plates so that they'd fit against the turret. Although, you're kinda' scaring me with the rounded turret and MEXAS modules. I really hope the modules won't droop by accident. LOL I'll be sure to upload more pics soon.
