Headache time...
First up the reason I'm doing this subject is the Type-59 is my fave tank out of World of Tanks (and top of tanks of all time) and I use a mod that makes it a D variant (the ERA and BAR add on). While I know this kit is lacking but its the only one their is BUT I wanted to do justice to the subject so I had plans to add in extras and redo stuff, then last night two things happened...
1st - surfing in general I happened across Legends conversion set for Tamiyas T-55a to Type 59 with BAR (plus voyagers T-55 PE sets)
2nd - earlier that day SWMBO authorised some extra dollars for Christmas, enough to cover the above sets and a Tamiya T-55A. Enough to bring together the perfect Type-59 (plus a Frankenstein kit of a T-54/55/Type 59 afterwards).
The headache? I was hoping to put that money towards Trumpeters new T-80BV that they announced to release this month (plus another couple of kits on my wish list) but if as it goes unless its released in the next couple of days their is only a small chance it would get here for Christmas. Too much indecision and temptation.
TLDR?
Build is on minor hold until I figure out if I'm restarting using Tamiyas T-55, Legend Conversion kit, Trumpeters kit for some donor parts (ERA, Barrel etc) and maybe some Voyager PE.

Andrew you're going have to make the decision yourself dude. If you take anyones elses choice and it goes wrong you'll probably get annoyed with yourself and bite your own a$$ for listening to them If you choose your own choice and it goes wrong you'll also get annoyed with yourself and bite your own a$$ for not listening to the others .
But.....
Legend kits/conversions are bloody extensive and look cool
I have the Tiran 6 for this campaign and a Merkava turret and 6 or 7 figures from them. If someone as clumsy as I can get along with their stuff , then you will definitely do alright. The parts you have started show that you have talent
So then, this is for all who can be bothered to look at someone elses boring photo albums
Here are some more pics of the T55 and T62, the first link to photobucket and the pics are from the Panzermuseum Munster Germany and one or two from IWM Duxford, the Muckleburgh military collection and Bovington Tank Museum:
http://s1147.photobucket.com/user/PBadman/media/T54-55-62/Enigma1_zpsf67b067d.jpg.html
And here's a load of a T55 with inner turret pics and mine clearing gear that can be seen in the Overloon Museum in Holland:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/87318007@N07/sets/72157638548170913/
Hope you like them and I hope they are of some use to any of you
I'll go through some more photo packets at the weekend, who knows what else is in there

Andrew,
Paul is right that you'll have to make the decision. But I would point out something...do you have to have the new T80 now? I mean, can it wait a couple of months? Do you plan on starting it when you get it, or will it go to the stash for a bit?
Since returning to the hobby a few years ago, I've become very stingy when it comes to buying kits. It was less a money thing, and more of a "buying for the sake of buying" type deal.
Then again, I avoid PE as best as I can so I'd build the Type-59 OOB and put the cash towards other kits.

Cam, I'm not too sure about the "great minds" statement, more like warped minds😜. Anyhow, hey, good choice. So there's like ten of us building the same kit! Cool. Syrian was one option I was looking at. I found some interesting pics of T-62s in action in the present Syrian conflict, but I've always wanted an Afgan era T-62m and I'd like to put this conversion to use. Hopefully you ordered up a set of OMSh tracks for yours. The RMSh (T-72 style) would not have been used in '73 as far as I can tell. As someone mentioned, luckily for me, they are just what I need and are included in the kit. It looks like the older sprockets are there for you as long as they fit the tracks you're getting. Maybe I'll get some time at the bench this week. Too cold to do anything else!

Hi Thomas, that's one of my favorite versions of the T55
Which ever components you use I'm sure looking forward to seeing this one done.

Fellow T54/55 enthusiasts does any one out there have a diagram of the external fuel lines. I would like to try my hand at scratch building the external plumbing. Any and all help will be deeply appreciated.

Ole, very nice start. If I may ask how are you going to do your fuel lines I will be following your progress looking for tips. This is my first try at it.

Ole, a speedy start there, and she looks great That is one thing about Tamiya kits, you can literally throw them together
in no time
Thomas, on my scratch build I used 0.4mm brass rod for gthe fuel lines. It was easy to handle too, for my T62 Legend has provided
me with 0.5mm brass rod. I'm not sure yet which I'll use
On the link I provided to photobucket you can find some close up
pics of the T55 fuel plumbing

Paul, thanks these look helpful. What are you using for the rubber connections and clamps? That looks like the tough part.I'm going to get some work in this afternoon while it snows here in NJ.

Hi Thomas
I made this T-62 previously this year and you can see the fuel lines prior to painting from the link.

Hi John, take your time my friend there is no rush yet
Thomas, the rubber connections are moulded onto the Legend conversions fuel tanks. On my last attempt I didn't even notice there was such things . but now I would use stretched sprue with a 0.6mm or 0.5mm hole in the end. I just depends on the diameter of the plumbing pipe your going to use.

Paul my problem here is choosing... I have a Tiran 4, 2 T-62's and 4 T-55s ( 1 Trumpy 2 Tamyia's and a Tiran 5 ) ...
I think finishing both T-62's, leaving the Tirans for a IDF / Cold War MBT 's future Campaigns.

John, you're going two kits great
So what's that you said about a follow on "Cold War" and even "Israeli" campaigns ?
Get em advertised my friend, I will sign up for sure.
I have just finished the Armoured car campaign and I shall also
start tomorrow. Hey it's kinda nice having a clean bench for once. I'll get some X-Mas pressies packed on it now before the stress factor kicks in

@Ole
Hi and thanks for watching these war veterans coming to life !
I was hoping to get one as a Afeghan War Veteran and the other for the South-Ossetian Conflict.
I hope they turn out ok !
@Paul
Yup, I couldn't choose one over the other so... both in !
About those Campaigns, I hope someone else propose them, with my Campaign Admin and leading a few other Campaigns and all that's on my bench... I can't make it.
I'd be happy just to finish on time all the Campaigns I'm in

Hello Everyone,
Not sure if this is allowed or not... Having said I will be build the Trumpeter T-62 model 1972 OOB, I have been reminded that I have the MIG Taliban T-62 M1 turret and applique armour in my stash. I plan to use this...
Here are a few photos showing progress. It was a long few hours cleaning up all those individual track links and I may be suffering repetitive strain injury, but they do look nice.
Cheers
Matthew

Excellent projects starting in here.
I'm going to build one (or both) of these SKIF kits out of box. No AM products. Going to try anyway.
I'll start after Christams time because of a current project on the bench now

Some nice kits being started and progress made, enjoying watching this GB, thanks all.
Alex and Paul, thanks for your thoughts. Care of HLJ, I have found a middle road. Thanks to them (HLJ) I discovered Aber's T-55 PE set, I get to walk a nice line of not over the top on Photo-etch AND better detail than the molded plastic latches etc.
Ole, thanks for the pic of the fuel lines. The Aber instruction sheet (from above kit) has some info/images on replacing them but more is better so thanks.
So with luck I will have the Aber PE set before Christmas but since Aber keep all their instructions online I already had a copy of so I can start prepping parts I need to. So its back to the bench
