Sherman Jumbo:

Was this their A2 or the E8? With those tracks I'm led to believe it's the M4A2E8.

Not trying to be rude but please read the next two comments directly following the incorrectly identified photo.

Question for Armorama: Sometimes I create a new topic and the system will lett me edit my own thread forever, other times I create a new topic and it cuts off my editing option in just a few minutes as it did in the case above???

And the gentleman standing next to Art Pope (doing his well know Pattom impression) is Patton's driver at the time of the accident, Horace Woodring, a native Kentuckian, having grown up on a dairy farm near Ft. Knox, KY:

Great pics . Bring back so many memories. I was stationed there from 1988-1996. I was a crew member on the Stuart and on the M-8 in 90-91. I remember Maj Klug very well. He was a member in the Goldbrickers Scale Model Club that I was a member of.

234/4 both in the warehouse and later cosmetically restored.

Due to lack of available proper German tires after the war this vehicle was re-shod in drilled out US truck wheels and tires.

Brian Johnson doing his best G.S. Patton impression. I have him in my sights down the gun tube of the Sherman following.

Earlier I promised more photos with Duane Klug but never made good on that promise. Here's to make up for that:

Amazing collection of vehicles. Sherman heaven and loved the lineup abreast of 5 M5'. Did all of those vehicles makes the move from Knox to Benning or are some privately owned?

Three were/are privately owned and still reside in the Ft. Knox area along with the short bed Deuce and the 4 ton ammo trailer.

The Museum also had a Jumbo but it was not a runner and never left the LST building.

Bill, Lou - thank you both. I am glad you enjoyed them.

It was great to be associated with the Patton. (So good while it lasted!)

Herr Klug, the man, the myth and the legend. May he have a SdKfz 11 to work on wherever he is at.

Michael,

This is an extraordinary photo, showing the tank in its "native habitat" and not on a parade ground. The weeds and grass - one can really get the feel for how the camouflage worked.

Thank you Fred, I have always tried to take "environmental" rather than "museum" photos whenever I can.

I have always tried to capture photos indistinguishable from original period photography as much possible.

The Patton events at Ft. Knox were always unique in that they made that job an easy one!
