Hey everybody. I've been doing a bit of 3D design work for a time now and I have a shop set up at Shapeways here: Mike's Model Shop. That said, I am not a professional with this program, Autodesk Inventor, and I do this as a side hobby. There are some things I just can't do, some due to limitations of the program and some just because I don't have the experience but if I think I can do it, I will try it.
So anyone have any suggestions?
What about a interior for the M60 series tank, Interior for the M1/M1IP. Also a winteration tarp for the M110A1/2, and finally a cover for the M151A1/2.

Interiors would be do able but tough. I'm holding off on doing them for those reasons and lack of dedicated time. I'm not sure about the tarps. Getting the canvas texture would be pretty difficult.
I'm not sure what an AOP vehicle is.
I also have some pictures of a few items I just got in.
First is a set of Walther PPKs.
And next is a set of classic glass Coca-Cola bottles.

The Sterling is finished. It's up on the shop and ready to be ordered. I ordered a test of it and the stock was incredibly fragile. It ships encased in a block with a cutout so that it can also be resin cast if needed.

Has anyone mentioned a 1/35 M1 8 inch gun being carried in the M3 6 wheeled transport? It would be great to have something to tow behind my AFV Club M35 Prime Mover!

A while ago I spent a lot of time CAD-ing up the 8" gun/240mm howitzer with the aim of printing one in 1:35, but you need to realise a set of six wheels on their own costs about $100 to print! (I have them on Shapeways if you want to take a look.). I reckon the full two-trailer rig would be in the neighbourhood of a grand...
It still needs some serious detail-work, but some day I'll see if there is a plastic mfgr out there interested in it!

Michael, do you think it would be possible to do the fire extinguisher that mounts to both sides of the armored wall in an M1151/M1167? The Academy kit only contains one for the cargo area, but not for the cabin. It doesn't have what I assume is a nozzle and hose assembly at all. It should be pretty easy to do. There are great photos of them on Prime Portal/Softskins/M1167. The photos are by our own Sgt Sauer.

Mike, here is an idea I have been pondering for a while.
Been thinking about scratch building several unusual shipping containers of late and the one bug-a-boo (obstacle) to these builds is the Key Block Connectors at the eight corners of the container.
These blocks are a perfect candidate for digital 3D printing! They are hollow AND they have a side opening on three sides, each opening being in different axises of the cube.
I think you would only have to produce one left hand and one right hand block and these could be a mirror image of each other!
At this juncture personally, I do not fancy the thought of scratch building eight of these little buggers and buying one of the recently available containers just to get the Key Blocks out of the kit seems to me to be a royal waste.
p.s. Also please feel free to take on the Container Handling Unit (CHU) that Trumpeter recently cheated us out of in their new HEMTT LHS kit. If you should just happen to be feeling three dimensionally frisky! (My scratch built rendition is on the right.)

I can do both. Just finished up the corner fittings so tomorrow I'll start up on the CHU. I couldn't find too much in the way of references but I figure I can just use a simple ISO container design to base the CHU design off of.

I am sure there is a gold mine of reference on the CHU hiding somewhere on the internet but I have yet to find it!
My work on the subject has been published elsewhere on the Armorama site.
I took the same tact building mine as you are talking about with your digital model. Start with a standard 1/35th scale container and proportion everything from there.(The only dimension I had to work with was the spacing between the lower locking pins. Everything else was done by eyeballing it!)
One suggestion: make the distance between the bottom locking pegs a tiny bit narrow. When I attach my CHU to a container I have to "spread" the legs ever so slightly. This helps to lock them into the bottom container key blocks for a good fit.

Will the upper hook fixtures actually be movable or will the whole structure be one piece that is "set" for use on a full sized 8'-6" container?
Does not matter either way, I was just wondering. I know there is a half-height container somewhere in my near future so I had to make mine movable.

I plan on making it with individual pins and separate hooks. I also intend on having the sliding arms separate as well. So the hooks, pins, and arms will all be separate parts and will be on wafers.
More progress:
I've also tried capturing what I think is a weld line. It only looks funky because it's a funky shape so the program interprets the wireframe shape weirdly. The wireframe is the way the shape actually looks.

Very interested. Is this please "tweaked" to interface with the existing TRUMPETER and Italeri container kits in 35th scale? I understand you are working in 1/35 scale, but I wonder do you have any of the available injection molded container box kits in hand for actual "fit checks" as your programing progresses?

Mike the CHU is coming along wonderfully!
I realize this is almost inconsequential but . . . . . the hook structures on your CAD drawings need to be rotated 180 degrees. The top hooks need face the "back" side (the flat side) of the CHU.
The only time the CHU would be set up as shown in your drawings (rarely) is when the operators must use the lower hooks to engage the top corner blocks of a container to lift it when it has been buried or has sunken into soft ground. (A real pain in the arse!)
Also IMHO while your top hooks are perfectly shaped to match the real thing - in the scale model world the hooks won't extend down into the top corner blocks as far as they do in reality. They will also not get an actual "bite" on the corner block. A hook of this design will just drop (as in slide right out) of the top corner hole. The inside hook face on the model will need to be much more vertical in order to stay locked into the scale container.
I know these top hooks as I built them look funky but they work!
