Did some reading on the versions that flew over Tunisia late '43. My Spitfire Mk.IXc was factory fresh, means the gun covers were of the smaller type. Quote Edgar Brooks:
"Also, by fall of 1943 at the latest, all surviving Spitfire IXs were getting the narrow chord cannon covers as replacements for the early wide ones. Also the only ones that had the early small air filter/intake were those converted from Spitfire V airframes (BS/EN range mostly), and the AeroVee filter was on all of those produced as Spitfire IXs from the beginning (early 1943 for sure). (via Tom Cleaver, quoting Edgar)"
Then there is an issue with the cowling:
Quote Edgar Brooks about Eduards offering of the Spitfire Mk.IXc.
"If you haven't put the cowling on yet, you should know that the bulged cowling Eduard wants you to use on this kit didn't appear on Spitfire IXs produced before August 1944."
I ran immediately to the spare box and found 2 different types made from resin.
But first I will glue all the plastic ones I have, including those from the Eduard Royal Class Box and will check out the differences
Thank the Gods of Thailand I also have spares for the intake.

Speeding with the sound it goes.
Dry fit of the left hand side and the floor part. Some instruments glued in place and finished the seat part, sprayed with Mr. Color 1500 surfacer.

Wings are glued and left to cure. So next will be the landing gear.
Found the flat engine cover and glued it with a lot of care to avoid most of the puttying and sanding, still a little will be needed though.

More to come later.

Don't you hate it when research reveals things you didn't want to know, but can't leave alone.

A lot of detail to be picked out in painting, but it is going to be sensational Robert.

That's a valid point, Peter!

If you are willing to gather all the knowledge available for what you're building, it is highly probable to bump into things you didn't want to find- actually.A beware-what-you-wish situation one can experience in everyday life too.

Robert, although I would not call myself "an airplane guy", I'm following your findings and build with utmost interest. Please keep them-facts, figures and pictures- coming!

I was supposed to be a late starter in this Campaign, but...

This morning SWMBO informed me that we'll be leaving for a week of summer holidays in the early afternoon(she is the one that takes care for unimportant matters).
I had to make a quick selection for my holiday build and choose to take the Bedford QLD with me .

This is my starting picture:

Thanks Peter and Angel. I admit, it neck one down, knowing all the detail, but.. You know. Edgar Brooks counts. I have only some short notes, depicting type and models from scale kit manufactures. On the other hand I see a lot on other forums and bookmark everything I did not know before. That can slow me down pretty well, until stop the build. Like with my Dutch Spit lately, a complete disaster. But 2 days later the thing is stripped and back on the line.

Great to see you join so early Angel, looking forward to this truck build.

Here is the start pic for my Valentine IX. I'm not sure I will start soon, but good to get the entry photo out of the way.

Hey Robert, Looks like your Spitfire is off to a speedy takeoff! I’m not a “wingy thingy” guy, but I live vicariously through your build... and I do love reading the history bits as well.📚

Phil, I’m in the same boat — itching to start my Diamond T, but it’s too hot in my workspace right now. ... And as usual, I have other projects that need to get finished so I can clear the workbench.

Paul,

thanks for sharing. Those are some great pics with lots of interesting subjects for modeling.

Mike,

I really need to pull myself back. I keep starting new projects, getting stalled on something, and instead of finding a way to move forward, start something else. I'm seriously working on finishing my KV-85 for the Bronco campaign and Stug for the tank destroyers campaign. I think once those are done, and I get moving again on the Battle of Britain builds, I'll feel comfortable starting on this. Right now it's become an issue of surface space in my work area - there isn't any!

Hey Mike that's an interesting truck. Diamand T has that 'Icon' American look. For sure not the easiest kit to build from what I saw over the years. Looking forward to it.

Robert, I've gotta' agree — love that look! I've been doing my research in anticipation of this campaign, so I've had some time to read-up and reference many photo's and several good build articles. Thus, I'm following the kit instructions with a grain of salt.🧂

I must admit... after recently building the very tiny, and very highly detailed Bronco 37mm Anti-Tank Gun, this kit feels like handling a stack of Lego bricks! 🧱

Cheers!🍺

Nice start Mike. I have the Hard Top Version kit #35803 in the stash, that I picked up from a club member that bought 2 of the same kit by mistake. He even threw in the LZ Models update etch set. It is a box jam full of parts, 460+ and not a track link in the count!

I will be watching how yours goes together with some interest...

Are you planning on using the vac formed cargo canopy?

Hey Peter, You've sparked my curiosity... Just wondering what all is included in the "LZ Models update etch set" you mention (No. 35443, I presume). Does the set come with PE headlight guards like the Wrecker set?

As far as the cargo canvas, I might go the tissue paper route and use the vacuum formed part for a mould as noted in the instructions. On a similar note: I was very pleased to find the vacuum formed canvas for the cab (No. 35440) was also included in the Diamond T 968A kit.

Howdy Y'all
Here is my entry. It's Tamiya's 1/48 scale British armored car in Polish service and markings.

I'll post a dated newspaper next to the kit when I get started. For some reason I always like to start with the wheels and/or turrent.
Take care and stay safe,
Don "Lakota"

Some more progress from yesterday.
Cockpit has base colors on. First I shot a primer coat, followed by Field Green. Rest is hand painted, using AK Interactive intwine layers. Needs some touch ups here and there. Dry fit to the left hand side wall. Needs sone trimming, but removal of paint will do a lot I hope.

Right hand side wall. Added some missing detail. Looks rather crude, but with some paint on it will do. Still missing one tiny instrument and the oxygen hose.

Both side walls will get a paint job, with brush. interior green with highlights using Mitsubishi interior green. Works to get some light tones.

The chair finished. Not the best picture, will make more later.

Paints are real glossy overall, I like that.
More to come later.

Hi Mike. Yes that is the one. LZ even have a pic of the Mirror Models box art on their Card!

Images of the contents are here:

http://www.panzer-modell.de/ausgepackt/archiv/lz/35443.htm

It has:
Headlight Guards
Rear Bumper sections
Cab Gun Mount
Some fittings for the chassis (replacing parts B15 which I assume will be the same for your kit and on page 5 of the assembly instructions)
PE to replace parts of the running board supports and the running boards themselves
Wheel arch/fender supports
2 Resin Jerry cans and PE straps for them
Bolt heads for the front bumper (which are gonna stay on the fret as I can barely see them, let alone be able to put cyano on them and glue them down!) and
2 short lengths of chain

The etch is trapped between film, but still has to be cut from the fret.

I'll make a decision what to use when I am actually building the kit.

I'm thinking of using Magic Sculpt putty on the vac form part so I can do a little shaping to make it somewhat different to other kits, though the people I know that have them is few and far between.

Hey Peter, Thank's for the quick reply! The item list and image links are exactly what I was looking for. The parts look pretty good, so I went ahead and ordered the set directly from 'LZ Models' last night. I've always gotten great customer service from Libor.

Cheers!🍺

Libor does a great job with his sets. Used to order my resin and etch for railway models from his shop. Great guy and modeler.

End of my short holiday. Did make a quick start with the cockpit almost ready to install. It needs a gloss to start a weathering, add the instrument panel, before I can button it up. Not to forget the seat harness, which is a challenge in itself and some bits and knobs..

Pretty pleased with it. Not the easiest job to make photos. Did a lot of other building over the last days. Photos will show up in other campaigns.

So back to work it is for a couple of days. Hope you all stay safe and sound.
Until next time.
