As a twist GB, how about having the entrants post the scene from the book they are modelling??

This would be GREAT!

I'd like to see our diorama experts do the scene where Vigdis Agustoddir is taking a shower under the waterfall in Iceland, with Mike Edwards standing guard hehehehehe

Paul:

I hope the Russians and fellow countrymen of yours pipe in soon.

I have about 20 Eastern express kits in the bunker waiting to be built. I vote yes for #1

PST makes one in 1:72

I don't have the kit but if I wanted to make one in 1:35, I'd buy the Dragon MAZ-543 for the chassis and cab and the PST kit for reference for the rocket containers and elevating system.

For "Seeing Red", that'd be 14 February 2005.

I am wondering, would the Su-27 be applicable to the 2nd campaign ? It is probably too late for Red Storm rising and the movie Red Dawn. As I am not familiar with the orther ones, I do not know...

I do fear it is not applicable however...

As for #2...yes, SU-27's were mentioned in RSR. Red Army tended to be more of a "tank/soldier book". Red Dawn had lots of neat stuff (anyone gonna make a ZSU mock-up...or a Mi-24 hollywood style?)

Yes, the idea is to encourage not only builds from fictitious fighitng, but also to get people to READ A BOOK!

Jacques,

as far as reading goes, I do not know where to stack my books (lacking space); Though I have read RSR numerous times, I did not remember the Su-27 being mentioned... It is one of the few Tom Clancy books still missing from my collection, though being on my wishlist...

Right now on my reading list are "The Grass Crown", "Lord of the Rings", "War and Peace" and a few biographies (Claudius, Richard I), roughly 3000 pages to go. I just finished a book about the 1704-1712 Campaigns of the Duke of Marlborough.

Add to that roughly $ 350.- of history books for college for this fall-semester, so lack of reading is not my prolem. (plus two papers to research and write, another 2000 pages) Lack of time probably will be a problem though.......

So guess my summer project is going to be an Academy 1/48 Su-27 with PE (and probably an AM cockpit)

Now, back to some building, house-cleaning and

Cheers,

Harm

AFAIK (don't have RSR with me right now), the Su-27 was given only a passing reference, with the MiG-29 getting much of the show in Iceland. There's the MiG-25 mentioned during Op. Dreamland (IIRC) which failed to detect or lock onto the F-19 "frisbee".

Hmmm... F-19.... IIRC, there was an oooooooooooold kit of it years ago. Would be nice to see one build it for #2.

Sorry, only Russian/Soviet allowed. BE ONE WITH THE RODINA TOVARISCH!

Here's the draft ground work:

Campaign Proposal for 2005: "Seeing Red"

Proposed Start Date: 14 February 2005
End Date: May Day (May 5?), 2005

Campaign Mission: To build ANY Soviet/Russian vehicle during ANY era for any or all genres (i.e. sea, land, air or space) and have it done by May Day

Requirements:

1) Build at least one Soviet/Russian built vehicle in Soviet/Russian/Warsaw Pact markings only
2) Build can either be out-of-the-box or make use of aftermarket/photoetch parts (OOTB is recommended)
3) Record build progress with in-progress pictures and campaign log journal entries
4) Post picture of complete work on or before May Day.

Reward:

1) One who successfully fulfills the minimum requirements as stated above would get a medal
2) One who successfully builds a subject for all four genres (sea, land, air and space) will get a SPECIAL MEDAL for EXEMPLARY DUTY FOR THE MOTHERLAND.
3) A clear conscience for having leveled the playing field for the Soviet/Russian Sphere of Influence against the "usual subjects" (i.e. Allied WW2, German WW2, NATO modern)

Political Officer's Morale Address:

Comrades, long has Mother Russia's military overshadowed by the West in the modelling world. Every year passes with German WW2 theme leading in popularity among model subjects, with Allied WW2 and NATO modern close behind. Every year we have seen new releases of the usual suspects (i.e. German WW2, Allied WW2, and NATO modern), leading to a homogenous lineup in hobby shops, which in turn spurs the manufacturers in producing such "cash crops" much to the sacrifice of variety. Indeed, seeing yet another Tiger or Pzkpfw variant is most disconcerting (especially considering that it is Germany that lost The Great Patriotic War), or another Sherman variant. And this despite the wide range of interesting modelling subjects which the design bureaus of Mother Russia have been churning for decades. Indeed, how often do you see a BRDM model in the shop? Or an accurate T-72M1? There are alot of subject Mother Russia offers. There is the T-80 with all its dizzying variants; the T-90, successor of the T-72 and current main battle tank of choice in the Red Army; there is the Su-27 and its follow-on variants; and who could forget the former second most powerful navy in the world, with its very fierce looking ships like the Kynda, Slava and Kirov battlecruisers? In space, the Mir Space Station was mankind's sole outpost in the final frontier for more than a decade. And yet, where are such subjects? Where is the T-90? Where is the Su-35? Where is Salyut? Where is the Delta IV? Is there ANY accurate T-80 kit out there? You cannot find them in most hobby shops. And if you do find them, they exist only in resin or aftermarket conversion kits which would empty your wallet (despite having made a second mortgage on your home).

It is high time to spur interest in this genre that has been relegated to the deep corners of Siberia. It is high time to show the world the dizzying array of unique subjects Mother Russia has to offer. Indeed, it is time to get the attention of manufacturers that yes, there IS a market out there for subjects that had the Red Star emblazoned on their steel skins.

So comrades, DO participate in "Seeing Red". Ensure that you complete your models for this campaign. DO spread the word! Building your subject out-of-the-box is encouraged - this will not only ensure you finish your subject well ahead of May Day, but will also whet your appetite for another Soviet/Russian subject. Build one or several subjects, and you get a medal. Build one subject for all four genres and you get a special medal, the esteem of your colleagues, and pride in the fact that you managed to reduce your pile of unbuilt Soviet/Russian kits (if you have had such pile in the first place).

So comrades, let us see to it that "Seeing Red" be one of Armorama's successful campaigns to date. Let us ensure that on May 9, Armorama will have its own 'virtual May Day parade', complete with fly-bys and naval exercises.

Good luck and God save the Rodina!

I like the way you think guys.
Just one thing though, I think you meant May 9th, not May 5th.

I will post a message for the Ukrainian Community and Russian forums today - or tomorrow at the most. I am trying to get as much done this week as possible.

What a coinsidence, my dad's birthday is on May 8th and my grandmother's in on May 9th.

Is Idea #2 dead?? (fingers crossed-hoping not). I just pulled out RSR again to re-read it and fix a scene in my mind to do.

No, #2 is still alive...it will be after #1...and a bit longer, to compensate for summer!

Keep up that reading and thinking.

#2 is still alive I hope - because I'm joining that too. (Jacques, I decided not to go with Project X - too late anyway for me. My intent for Project X will go to #2 MWUHAHAHAHAHA!)

Comrades,

I just submitted 'Seeing Red' in the Campaigns page. I f*cked up though with the scale setting (didn't see the selection 'other' so I clicked 1:6 minimum, 1:1200 maximum, when it should've been set at 'other' in both minimum and maximum). I tried to edit it but after clicking on 'change', I got a 'Not Allowed to Modify'.

Oh well, for clarification's sake, 'Seeing Red' is an open-scale campaign (hell, if you have an unfinished, Kontakt-5 equipped 1:1 working order T-80U hidden in your garage, then go for it! ).

Yeah, the campain editing tool doesn't work, I tried it too on the Russian page and it gave me the same message. Someone needs to inform Jim.

Hi Iam in for #1.

But can someone please advise me on what I need to do for a campaign or how to do it, other than build a Russian subject kit as this is my first campaign.

Iam planning on building three or four aircraft in 1/144 and if time allows one AFV 1/35 or one or two in 1/72

I have only read RSR and that was years ago, how about Sword Point or Team Yankee both by Harold Coyle as material for #2.

Luciano,

First, sorry for me late response.

For campaigns in general, you go to the Campaigns part of this site (click link at the left side of the screen under 'Home'). You will transported to the Campaigns Page. Click on the campaign that you want to join. For "Seeing Red", it's still 'Awaiting Approval' but once it reaches 10 members, it'll be approved AFAIK.

Once you clicked on a particular campaign which you'd like to join, click on the 'Enlist' button at the right. Once you do that, you get a page saying you've successfully enlisted in the campaign.

Campaigns have their own start and end dates, i.e. you have to start your build and finish it within those dates. Unless the campaign manager allows an early start or extends the end date, you are allowed only to start and finish within the dates specified in the campaign.

For "Seeing Red" in particular, all you have to do is build a Russ vehicle starting on 14 February 2005 to 9 May 2005, post in-progress pictures of your build at the Campaign Journal, and finish your project by 9 May 2005 with a picture or pictures of your finished project posted on 9 May 2005.

As for "RSR" campaign, Jacques is AFAIK the campaign manager for that one.

Hope that helps.

BTW, for those expressing interest in "Seeing Red", any idea what you want to build already? Yeah I know it's still next year, but got plans already?

Am going for simple stuff - probably a BRDM-2. Maybe squeeze in a Gopher (if I gets me an MTLB kit). However, part of me wants to give y'all a big surprise hehehehe
