Thanks for the info. I have enlisted.
My planned build is as follows Mig-15, Mig-19, Su-22 & Mig-1.44 all in 1/144 scale, also plan on 1/72 AFV if time allows.

Hi folks,
I'm thinking to build, if nothing change until next May, a Monogram Mig 29 Fulcrum, 1/48, kit #5825. It has has as marks only red stars and two "Twelve blue". Just, I would like to know if this plane sometime belong to Warsaw Pact. Does someone knows? If yes I'll build it.

Hmmm. Seeing red.. It's too early to tell if I could jump on this campaign. I do have a BTR-80 kit gathering dust. I will enlist when the time comes Comrades.

Maybe the second campaign should be someting more like...Literary Russians: Make a russian subject from a novel? This would let you include any book or game, (or short story) that you wanted to.
Thoughts?

Count me in for MISSION: Seeing Red Campaign!!!!
I have a Moskva Helicopter Carrier (covers sea and air... trying to figure out how to add land and space)... with little helicopters on the landing pad ...its put out by Airfix and is 1/600th scale. Was a pig in a poke in a mess of odds and ends boxes at a hobby store in Bloomington. I got it cause it was Russian. Its from the cold war era. Not much in the way of written directions, but it looks like plenty of visual graphic directions. I figure .. Feb to May... I should be able to do this. My second model ever ... my first was the SDKFZ222 panzerwhagen (or however you spell it) for the Barbarossa Campaign.

I was just perusing the movie "red Dawn" again and I thought that maybe I should restrict it back to that for a fun build. You know, build anything seen or mentioned in the movie.
I would love to see a Nicaraguan T-72 in Cheyanne, WY, or Soviet paratroops in Oklahoma... #:-)
Any comments?

Hello...
...did we decide if we were going to start early with this campaign before the "offiicial" start date.

"Seeing Red"?
I don't want to sound like an a$$-hat, but I prefer to sticking with the time line (Feb - May 2005). That way, IMO, the drive to finish it (or the frustration to completing it - whichever is one's POV ) is great (something to do with deadlines and all). Plus, one comment I've got so far in this thread that it's a "short" campaign - a "welcome change" from the rest. Plus, going for the prescribed dates would be a challenge for all of us. Besides, the Soviets ran a tight ship, we should run one just as tight, too!
BTW Jacques, my Smerch isn't for "Seeing Red". I doubt it'll even be done by December 2005!
BTW, I'm contemplating on allowing existing half-builts (i.e. those early models you've built but not have touched for epochs - remember, EPOCHS - and have no intention of completing because you've lost the heart for it) for "Seeing Red" (though I won't enter any of my half-built Soviet ships - for the simple fact that they won't even make it for our May Day even if I started revving up the production line today! hehehe)
What sayeth the forum? I'm open to amendments (if the wind blows that way), but I'm sticking to having the end date on May 9. May Day is May Day comrades!

Danny, any Soviet or Russian vehicle counts.
I would like to stick with May 9th for the completion date, but if everybody wants it maybe we should make it a little longer - say Jan. to May. instead of Feb. to May.

Okay, okay...I was just looking for a early start.
I recently found my old Mongram Yak-28 and just jumped right on it. I am now done building it and am deep into making and painting. So I was just looking to CAPITALIZE on my recent work here...I am sorry corades, it will not happen again (the horrible C word!) #:-)
As for half builds and such...I would say yes to that. As much as we like to encourage a build, getting someone to finish off a kit they "shelved" would be a tremendous accomplishment as well. I would say that the kit in question should not have anything more that the first rudimentary base coat of paint at the most when starting. I know some modelers paint the kit on the sprues before assembly, so you gotta be carefull their.
Now Thomas, you have to FINISH SOMETHING, or else I am sending IVAN over to FINISH you! #:-) #:-)

Danny: No, any Russian vehicle in any era. This is not an exclusive modern subject campaign.
Jacques: Hehehehe no wonder you want an early start date hehehehe! No problem in me finishing something - I already have a nice, small, very doable Dragon BRDM-2 kit laying in its plastic wrap and box for the campaign next year. I will try - no, FORCE - to build it OOTB and try to inoculate myself from the dreaded AMS.
Ooooh! A friend of mine says Italeri's 1/72 Tu-22M Backfire is now available in stores here! It's quite pricey though (but not as pricey at Trump's 72 Bears!) but it'd be perfect for Seeing Red! But then, I ALWAYS mess with aircraft models and don't complete them, which means it's a waste of my money, and..... :-)

actually, I have a Tu-22 backfire that I started about 5 years ago that I have not finished...I have the first coat of paint on, and then the dreaded AMS monster set it. I have a few things to change, the kit really needs it.
I am also thinking of scratchbuilding TER's for the pylons so the beastie can drop "tons" of CBU's...should look pretty cool...either that, or else just 2 AS-6's slung under for maximum anti-shipping effect. Heh heh heh. But this kit gets held off until next year. The Yak-38 is a neat little plane, but theTU-22 is impressive. Takes a bit of work though.
I was hoping to see that SMERCH finished for the Seeing Red campaign, darn-it!
So what I will probably do, at this point is:
Ship: 1/700 Oscar Class submarine
AIr: TU-22
Land: T-80 with SP Designs parts (for a nice, correct late T-80UD)
Space: Maybe the Sputnik OR the Buran Space stack.
I will have to see, all of this is subject to change!

I am setting my goals to get these kits completed:
Aviation: Zvezda's Mi-24, I've had that kit in the stash for 2 years now and finally I have a reason to make it. I haven't had any luck with aviation for some reason - every kit I got was either never finished or broke during the assembly
Naval: Don't know yet, maybe the Kursk sub???
Space: I don't even know what's out there...
Vehicles: Anything that comes to my mind... maybe the Dragon Scud I've been working on
Figures: I am hoping to get one of the ANT Miniatures 120mm Spetsnaz kits or the Eduard pilot Boris Safonov
Dioramas: Do we have to do one to get the medal? If so - I will probably do a dio that I planned with the KV-85 and Tamiya tank riders.

Jacques: hehehe sorry, no Smerch for May 9.
Paul: AFAIK, the "rule" with regard to medals is that each subject (land, sea, air, space) would have a unique ribbon. Do all and you have one absolutely-gaudy-and-large medal - seriously, a unique medal which says you did all four genres. Dios are ok, and say you have three subjects in it (e.g. tarmac, with an airplane and fuel truck) you get two ribbons - one air, one land.
Assuming, of course, we're allowed to have unique/multiple ribbons. If not, then any completed entry qualifies for a ribbon/medal.

Thank You for starting a campaign letting us build something off the beaten path. (Hey Model Companies: There are people out there that like to build Soviet stuff.)
Although on the downside, there aren't exactly as many refence sites for Russian equipment as their Western counterparts. But hey, adapt and overcome.
I'm trying to finish a Polikarpov I-16 right now, but I kinda started before I heard about the great campaign.
So, I will be building the Eduard Yak-3, with VERY few PE items. I hate instrument panels.
