Two Ideas have come up recently for campaigns in 2005:
1. Seeing Red. Anything russian (land/sea/air/space) to generally be built OOB (or at least encourage OOB) Medals for each subject and a special one for someone who builds in ALL 4 catagories. Run from Feb to the May Day Parade in Moscow!
2. Red Storm Rising/Red Army: Build anything described in the two books. General medal for building and a special medal for building a vehicle from each book. No aftermarket restrictions. Run from May Day in Moscow to Nov 31st.

I think that having to build something froma book would limit particiaption because a) you have to have a copy of the book and b) you actually have to read it to find out what the heck they are talking about!!

I will go for number 1 but hopefully without a limit to an OOB entry. I really like the idea of starting or ending it on May Day.

Mmmm, have needed a reason to pull out the Dragon T-80 and Soviet tank crew kits and redo the Spetsnaz figures I have lying around...
I'm kean on option 1, would there be any specific era (ie Revolution, WW2, Cold War, Afghan War, Modern)?

Any era would be good as long as it is russian.
And as for aftermarket, I think we would have to allow it, but Tomas and I wanted to at least encourage OOB people.
Also looks like #1 has far more popularity...hmmmm.

I'm in for either but not both. especially since the BMD-1P will not be done for APMS east...
The RSR sounds cool and would be a good reason to re-read the book.

Jacques:
I'd be up for 1 and 2 (a figure of course for both). However on 2, would there be a possibility of lossing up the restriction to include "Red Dawn" and "inspiration" from the EA Game "Freedom Fighters" (about a Russian invasion of New York)?

Good Idea Porkchop...
Maybe the second campaign should be "Red Fantasy". Basically, base it on the books "Red Storm Rising" and "Red Army", the Movie "Red Dawn", The Game "Freedom Fighters", and even the comic book "Nth man"/
Sound good?

I'm open to the idea..... I always liked the side-story in RSR of the guys on Iceland. Just to clarify, #2 needs to be a Soviet subject, correct? Or is it open to Allied/resistance stuff as well?

In #2, any subject in the book - NATO/Western or Soviet/Russian.
Looks like #1 looks popular
No, there'll be no specific era for "Seeing Red". As long as it is Russian/Soviet, it'll do. I was also thinking of limiting it only to Russian/Soviet vehicles, and not those "modified" or used by other countries (e.g. say a Chinese Type 54 tank).
Was thinking OOB-only for three reasons: 1) to invite OOB-only builders or novices, 2) to ensure that the person who enlists in the campaign finishes the subject, and 3) to make one build more subjects for all four categories (i.e. air, sea, land, and space).
For the category 'space', that could be satellites, space stations, launch vehicles, etc.
I'll be posting a draft on "Seeing Red" soon, but what Jacques said in first post is basically it.
BTW, anyone here can perhaps post at the Russian-language forum of Armorama about "Seeing Red" campaign proposal?

Id definately be interested in building something Russian .... part 1.
I will be doing this with or without the campaign anyway, but love the "fellowship of the build".
Sounds great. I like the idea of the OOB build and the reasons stated are very reasonable.
Not meaning to step on anybodies toes who insist on AM stuff, but the idea of a campaign is to build within the given guidelines, not to change them so its suits your own personal preference. Enrollment is optional!
Not trying to start anything ... just a personal opinion.

Thanks Paul. You could start by telling your fellow Ukrainians and posting the Russians about this campaign in their respective community forums.

I'll definitely be in for this one !
I have so many soviet kits to build...
Maybe I'b bee a bit hindered by OOB... but then I'd build my Zvezda BMD1 because it's the way I wish to build it.

This is a great idea. I really like how you have included option #2. I have read only Red Army and it was a great book. It would be great to see some scenes from that book in model form.

GIBeregovoy, I will post it in the Ukrainian Community forum and on the Russian site, but I don't know if anybody's gonna reply. We (Staff Jim and me) actually had a monthly contest with a 40 dollar prize planned to bring the site some popularity, but for the first one 4 people signed on and nobody posted the finished work. I'm trying to get the site together now with more efford than I put into it over the summer so hopefully we'll have some participants.

Spasiba Paul. I hope "Seeing Red" would fulfill yet another purpose - to make site popular with the Russians and Ukrainians.
BTW, I have been thinking about the OOTB-only requirement. Apparently, I failed to recall that there are aftermarket parts that greatly diversifies the type of Russian equipment by converting or correcting existing Russian model kits, such as that offered by SP Models (no no no, this isn't a plug, thank you ). So, if anyone has already such conversion kits, you can use this. That way, we get to see more variety in the campaign entries. Of course, OOTB still is encouraged (rather than recommended or required) so that campaign members can finish and produce more subjects for the campaign.
So, here is my solution to the OOTB "issue":
1) It is no longer a requirement nor a recommendation, but it is encouraged.
2) Aftermarket parts (e.g. conversion kits), PE, etc. are now allowed. Just make sure you get to finish your work.
All campaign members will have to submit/post in-progress pix (as usual) and a final pic for your completed work. All pictures of completed works will then be posted on May Day, so that Armorama can celebrate its own "virtual May Day Parade."

I'm glad you decided to include AM stuff, it will, like you said give us a much greater range of models. The problem with Russian and Ukrainian users is that they just registered and forgot. If you look at the members list for Ukraine and Russia you will see about 20 and 60 members for each country but only one of them (Gopher) was active for some time. However now we've lost even him. Maybe he's just on vacation or maybe it's my fault that I kind of let things slip by on the site... I'll take the blame for that. Now that the summer's over, I'm getting much more into the site again. Jim and me are trying to have some kind of contest and a newsletter..., maybe we can get together with another Russian site for more eficient work.

Count me in for #2 for sure!!!
I'd love to see other peoples "visions" of these books! I've read RSR several times and RA 2-3 times as well.
As a twist GB, how about having the entrants post the scene from the book they are modelling??
This would be GREAT!
