1⁄35Making A Simple Door
Now cut or saw the three horizontal planks needed for our door and glue them into place. Be sure that the inner corners have exact right angles. A tiny difference in angles will show immediately. If your planks dont have exact right angles, then move them in a way that the inner angles are exactly right. The outside of our door can always be sanded or filed into shape...this is much more difficult with the inner sides. |

Now add the other vertical plank. When you follow this sequence, you'll only can end up with one side of the door that needs a bit of work and that is the side of the last plank that you glued on. when you, for example, glue both verticle planks in place first and then try to add the horizontal plankt, you'll find it's very hard to get that right.... you'll have to cut those horizontal planks with a deadly presicion. With the sequence I used there is a bigger margian for error. At this stage it's time for me to visualize things again... so mr. figure is put next to the door again.... if it looks right, then I go to the final step and if it isn't what I expected...... I destroy the door and start over from step 1 again. In this example my door looksgood enough and I go to the final step.... the sanding. Sand it very carefully with a very fine grid sandingpaper. Remember...there's Balsa on top and that is very soft... don't sand too hard. Well, this wraps it up. It's quite easy to make a door of your own. With a bit of patience, some sharp blades and some wood, you'll get there. Happy Modeling ! |
