Making a Simple Door
|
When I was building a simple door to use in one of
my dioramas, I thought that a small article on how to build a door might
just be of some use to others too. Therefore I sat down behind my good
old computer and decided to put some things on the harddisk. I hope you
can use this simple method.

Step 1 : The Base
|
When you decide to make a door, the best thing to do
is to start with a simple piece of wood that you use as the base for further
modeling. On the picture you see a piece of wood that I cutted to the
exact size to fit in the wall. I used "Abachi wood" for this
part. Abachi is the type of wood that is used in the modeling world to
make decks in ships. It's strong, easy to saw and cut, and has a very
nice grain that can easily be weathered.
A lot of people would have chosen Balsa wood, but I
think it's a bit too soft for the purpose of the base for a door.
Balsa comes in very handy in the next steps....I'll explain why in a few
minutes.
(The ruler you see in the picture is scaled in Centimeters)
