Federico Scassa shares with us some images of his diorama featuring a Pz.kfw. V Sd.kfz.171 “Panther” (Fruehe Version), of the 1st SS Panzer Division LSSHA, seen in Paris during May 1944, in a very peculiar camouflage. The model in 1/35th scale is from Tamiya, with many scratch-built parts, Aber photo etch and MG barrel. The accessories are from Plus Model and Dragon, the canvas made using Milliput and the tracks Friulmodel. The figures are miscellaneous from Alpine, Verlinden, Sinsengumi, Warriors and Custom Dioramics, and topped off with Hornet heads. The resin base is from Reality in Scale with Plus Model accessories. All painted with Humbrol enamels and Windsor & Newton oils.

Excellent details throughout!! The camo is an interesting look. 2 queries: Maybe a couple more pics cause the ones posted don't show the civilians; and what happened to the bow machine gun??

Hi Sebastian;I first applied a sprayed mixture of Humbrol 053 Gun Metal (80%) and 201 Metallic Black (20%). When well dry, I sealed with gloss transparent (Humbrol, or Model Master). Then I washed with well diluted (in white spirit)mixture of Raw Umber/Burnt Umber/Raw Sienna/Burnt Sienna W&N oils (darker and lighter effect by percentage choice).The final effect (always on well dry surfaces) is done by several, gently rub and polish passages of ear cotton cleaner ("Cotton Fioc"). Enjoy!

Only two MGs were fitted to the Panther as standard, the co-ax and the wireless operators position. If the AA MG was required, it was withdrawn from the bow position and mounted on the cupola ring mount. I like this diorama very much and am familiar with the sequence of photos showing the LAH Panther near the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. I'm not sure the crew would be smoking in the presence of senior officers though!
