Tamiya M3A1 Stuart

  • move
This is the new Tamiya M3 Late Production #35360 that came out earlier this year. It was a very easy build, well detailed with great fit, in short no real problems. I did run into some issues with a Future floor wax coat that silvered/frosted the registration codes but it isn't terribly noticeable. I had a lot of fun with the weathering; I wanted to show the heavy Tunisian desert dust and relied on a couple of different examples of AK Interactive Dust and Dirt Deposits which can be easily manipulated with enamel thinner once applied. A lone Diopark cactus finished of the desert base.

About Rick Cooper (clovis899)
FROM: CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES

I have been modeling for about 30 years now. Once upon a time in another century I owned my own hobby shop; way more work than it was worth. I tip my opti-visor to those who make a real living at it. Mainly build armor these days but I keep working at figures, planes and the occasional ship.

Rick has done an excellent job on this, with the dust reminding me of times when I could taste it in my mouth after a long road march. It looks just like that too on real tanks in dusty dry climates. I do have one question-- what's up with the green-green TCs headgear?-- Its not OD, looks like the TC gave it a coat of paint in the shade of faded Kelly Green! VR, Russ

The grubby/dusty look is top notch, and the tank & base match perfectly! Seems like I'll have to get one of these new Stuarts and toss the ancient ones.

Wish I had a good answer for your question about the headgear. Best I can come up with is it was supposed to be the base-coat only! I'll need to do some work on it for sure. Thanks for pointing that out!! Cheers, Rick

The commanders .30 Browning needs to be fixed. its sitting wrong in the mount and looks like its missed being painted (apologies if this was a WIP images). a .30 should look like this in the mount LINK
