Hi,
While checking out the site today, another improvement to the forums came into my mind. At the present state the "last reply by" link next to each forum category leads to the first page of the thread in question.
Could this be tweaked so that the link leads to the last page instead, where the latest post actually is?
That would be convenient, IMHO.
What do you think?

I know Jim is away today so don't feel like he is ignoring you if he doesn't respond right away.

It's doable certainly. I guess it just depends on what the majority of users want. Makes logical sense to me though.

I would like to "third" Eetu's idea. Makes perfect sense to me as well.

the easiest way is to give each member the choice as to what they see, in the settings give them the option of see last reply or the start of the thread.

Are you saying you want to see the last post chronologically or the lastest posts since your last visit?

The latest posts since my last visit makes the most sense to me.

I would like to, when replying to the last post made that I can see the "last post made" rather than the first post in the thread, as requested by Eetu.

I think some of you misunderstood what I meant, but brought up another good idea on the way!
I was talking about the "forums" page, where are all the categories, with a link to the thread where a user had last posted something. I meant it would be convenient if this link lead to the last page of that thread where the last post is.
But that idea regardin replying is a good one, I second that.
So, when you're posting to a multi-page thread, and click on the general (at the very bottom, next to "top" and "unhide all") reply button, it loads up the first page.
Click on a reply button of a post on that page, and the view stays with that page. I think it makes sense that the general reply button wouldn't load up page 1 either.

Good point Eetu,
This would be good for posts that you check regularly. However, I don't get to check armorama over the weekend and when I do on Monday there are often new threads with several posts. In this case its better for me to start at the start as the system already does so that I can read the entire thread.
It would be great to have the option to click the thread to go to the start (as you do now) or click the 'last reply by' part to go to the latest post that had been posted in the thread.
This way you have the choice depending on if you are new to the thread or a regular.
Does this make sense/is it do-able?
Cheers,
James

I think I fixed the forwarding issue. It was just a bug. The page variable was missing on the footer reply button. FYI if you "Reply" using that button (or the one at the top) your reply is attributed to the topic in general and not one of the posts subsequently. There is a hierarchy of posts we just can't see them.... yet.
Cheers,
Jim

I think these recent improvements might have brought up a bug. (or it's a passing phenomenon)
When replying, the thread isn't displayed under the box where you write. The following error message is shown instead:
Warning:
Missing argument 4 for topic() in /home/mgadmin/public_html/modules/SquawkBox/index.php on line 1264
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare head() (previously declared in /home/mgadmin/public_html/header.php:11) in /home/mgadmin/public_html/header.php on line 11
I've made several replies to a couple of threads and the message seems to be the same regardles of the thread.
Of course, you may already know this and are working on this. If this is the case, sorry for bothering you some more.
:-H
Oh, now there's the option to go where the last post is, or to the first page. Cool.
